Healthy Weekend: Aw Sheeeet!

by Rachel on November 13, 2009

So, for the past two weeks I’ve been bed-hopping more than I did the summer when I was 19 years old, working at Victoria’s Secret, and taking dating advice from gay men. I’m really excited to get home to my own bed, with its nice clean sheets.

Clean sheets are one of life’s greatest pleasures. In college and living in NYC without laundry in my building, I got really bad about changing them regularly. But now I’m fully committed and I love it!

I guess before I’d just sort of forget? But now I take them off my bed in the morning when I get up on the day of my long runs. This means that I am sure to do them once a week, and also, that when my body is tired the day of a long run, I am rewarded with crisp, perfect sheets!

So, start a ritual and change your sheets this weekend too. Not only will it keep bacteria from building up in there — seriously, if you can’t do your full set of sheets, at least do your pillowcase — but it will also help you sleep better! I have no scientific proof to back this, but I always sleep like a baby when my bed has clean sheets on it. I love to travel, but I’m more excited than anything to sleep in my own bed tomorrow night!

PS shameless plug right here! Remember my mom’s amazing Wild Things costumes? Well she entered them in a contest on Facebook/iVillage and she NEEDS VOTES! Click here, accept that you’ll be a fan, and vote for Preston! It takes 30 seconds but she’s counting on me to help her win since I’m the one with all the friends! We need to get her like 30 votes today, so I’m counting on you peops!

I voted and it is a great costume, it’s my first time seeing it and I loved it.

As for clean sheets, gotta get better about doing that here. It’s such a hassle when you’re getting the laundry ready to go for the week and you have to then strip the bed…but it does feel good to have clean sheets to slip into!

Have a great weekend.

i love this idea! i think scheduling ANYTHING that should be done weekly on “long run days” may be helpful for me- but i especially love the idea of sleeping in the FRESHEST sheets the day after i kick my ass on the trail. :) you are BRILLANT!
