Get Bready

Well my stomach flu is still hanging out, so I’ve been eating allll types of bread for the past few days. (Seriously. Triscuits and Saltines with Graham crackers for dessert. Awful.) But I love bread. I’m pretty sure I could, in fact, live on bread alone (maybe a little butter and an apple for good measure). Crusty, soft, chewy, salty…AHHH! Dear Panera, can we get married?!

While I love my recent discovery of Nature’s Pride bread, I’ve been baking bread at home more often. It’s really cheap, and kneading dough is pretty enjoyable. Plus, it makes your house smell fantastic. You don’t need a fancy breadmaker (one gadget I’ve never really gotten into); you simply need a loaf pan (hello, Goodwill!) and you’re good to go! Plus, it’s rather difficult to find bread at the grocery store that doesn’t contain a lot of weird ingredients (I’m talking to you xanthan gum!) and that is a worth the money. Homemade bread is so fresh and fluffy and nothing really beats having it warm out of the oven. I used to think of homemade bread as strictly a side dish, but now I realize that it can be used for sandwiches all week too! (You can even make your own pitas, but see now I’m getting all worked up and overexcited..)

I’ve been loving making a weekly soup, but I’ve decided to switch things up a bit and start doing a weekly bread! I feel like it’s pretty timely because bread makes a great holiday gift! Seriously, last year I made a few loaves of beer bread and gave them out with a block of Cracker Barrel cheese (um, surprisingly good). It was like a $7 gift and so much more impressive than lottery tickets.

So this weekend, instead of buying bread, buy bread ingredients! And then get baking!

Oooh, fresh bread! The food here in Trinidad is amazing, but not much going on in the bread department and bread is my crack–I must have been the Michelin woman in my past life. Looking forward to some yummy bread recipes, even if it means amping up the running to make up for gluttony!

Ok, guess who’s craving Panera now! I love their soups and their ice tea, too. I just might have to stop there after I earn my carbs in the gym today.

I LOVE homemade bread. My favorite breads are really grainy and dark, like whole wheat, rye and pumpernickel, which are amazing straight out of the oven.

Yay for baking! I won’t be baking bread, but I’ve got muffins, cornbread and other tasty treats on the agenda!
