All Lit Up!

by Rachel on December 7, 2009

Good Monday morning!

I hope your weekend was fabulous! Mine was full of partayyyyys. My cousin Colin had his first birthday party on Saturday, and my cookie party was Sunday!

Cookie exchange = win. Why? Because it’s an excuse to eat, drink,  and have girl time! There were cookies, of course, but honestly, the drank is more what’s on my (lil bit hungover) mind.

But first, there a run to be done! I got up early Saturday morning and did my eight mile run, which was hanging over my head all week. I don’t know why; physically I knew I could do it, but mentally, I was struggling! I just had so much to do and all I wanted was to skip the run and spend that hour of my life doing party stuff. When I actually went to do it though, the 32 (!!!) laps on the track were really not that bad. However, I did not know that all the local high school teams apparently come to my gym to condition on Saturday mornings. Um…that’s what we call the “Cougar Workout.”

The run was such a good start to the weekend. I felt amazing being done with everything “necessary” by 10:30 AM!!

Next it was time for FOOD! I spent a lot of time prepping everything. The handmade butternut squash ravioli…

Then a break to go to the baby party and have the cake decorated by my mother (of course)…

And my grandma’s famous banana pudding…

And introduce Colin into the wonderful world of Funfetti…

On Saturday night I watched Martha Stewart’s Christmas special and made my cookies (macaroons and gingerbread pimps/hoes), prepped all the other food and drink, and made the aprons that were the party favors…

Sunday was an off day, and most of the work was done, so I focused on cleaning the house and getting everything party ready! At the party, there were some foodgasms…

Lots of cookies (this isn’t even all of them)…

And a whoooooooole lotta cocktails.

Fact: I have been drinking so lightly since my birthday in August. I’ve just been running so much and so focused on my life goals/No Asshole Diet…I forgot how we do! But then my girl friends came along and reminded me, and, well, I was lit up by, um, 3 PM!?! But hey…it happens. It doesn’t happen every other day like it did on college, so fine. Among four girls we finished three bottles of wine and a double batch of my cocktail.

That actually does not constitute “moderation” but hey….it was rather fun to stumble through my banana cookie recipe! It was also fun later in the night to stumble across Facebook and G-chat, begging my friends to let me do things I’d regret…old habits die hard right? Later in the night, I got a bit concerned; I have a 16 mile run on my schedule today, and I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel for that. So I drank a lot of water and called it an early night!

I don’t feel my 100 percent best this morning (really just more tired than anything) however I have to say, scheduling a long run the day after drinking is not the worst idea. Now I have an excuse to kill this bagel craving! I’m not exactly looking forward to spending the day running, but I love that it affords me the excuse to spend the rest of the day/tomorrow doing nothing. I was so busy this weekend, I didn’t have much time to relax. So…16 miles now…Lifetime Movie Network later…ish. I’m still talking myself into it; a huge part of me just wants to do a fiver and call it a day. Monster Month UGH.

Have a good day!
