Feeling Flushed!

As I mentioned earlier this week, I decided to start Phase 1 of the Fat Flush Plan post-marathon. When I Tweeted about it yesterday, I was surprised by the quick response I got…a lot of people were interested in the plan! If you want to know the basics of the plan, you can read all about it in this post, but I thought I’d show you some of the changes I’ve already made to my eating habits in just two days!

I hadn’t even looked at the book in months, so I forgot all that went into the plan. Like I said, I’m doing a modified version; the first two times, I followed it exactly. This time, I’m relaxing a bit. I don’t feel like taking all the supplements, and honestly, if I want to go out this weekend and have vodka to celebrate the marathon, I’m going to do it. But I’m trying to stick to it pretty closely!

So when I woke up on Wednesday, I realized I wasn’t supposed to have coffee! Uh-oh! The plan discourages all caffeine, but I decided this was a good time to start drinking green tea again, because it’s so good for you and I really wish I remembered to drink it more often.

You can have two eggs a day, so for breakfast I had scrambled eggs with orange and green peppers, onions, chili powder, and salsa, with sliced cucumbers.

For lunch, I was out and about, so I went to the Whole Foods salad bar. I looove the WF salad bar. It’s all so GREEN and FRESH! It’s just too much happiness for me though…I always get carried away and end up paying $14 for a goddamn salad. But I can’t complain because it always makes me feel soooo healthy! When I get WF salad, I tried to load up on veggies I don’t have at home, so I had spinach, Romaine, cabbage, mushrooms, peas, broccoli, cauliflower, and grilled chicken, topped with olive oil and red wine vinegar.

For dinner, my mom made tacos, so I made a taco bowl with lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, onions, and salsa, and had sliced jicama on the side.

I also had three snacks: two apples and a half-ounce of almonds!

I had to go to the grocery store for more supplies on Wednesday, so I went even more full-out on Thursday! That meant adding in a daily tablespoon of flax seed oil…

Yesterday I mixed it up a bit and had a smoothie for breakfast. I decided to have my two eggs at lunch by adding them to my salad with two ounces of leftover grilled chicken. Then I topped it with vinegar, lemon juice, and flax seed oil.

I had a friend-date for sushi on Thursday night, so I had miso soup, salmon sashimi sans rice, and an avocado-cucumber-asparagus roll with minimal rice. And more green tea! It was SO good, just very fresh and delicious. Then I snacked on fruit and almonds before bed.

I’m really glad I’m doing this plan again. It’s forcing me to add good stuff back INTO my diet! I was so busy slamming carbs for so long, I was really neglecting my veggies. That WF salad was SO refreshing! It’s also reminding me to eat different veggies. The book has a recipe for shrimp ginger soup with snap peas, and I’m going to try that this weekend. I’m also adding more fresh herbs and spices back into my diet, and remembering to add lemon to my water and to cook things in no-salt-added broth instead of using cooking spray.

My energy level has been very good! (Sometimes too much for my own good, honestly. I need to CALM DOWN.) There were a couple times when I was hungry (not even HANGRY, just hungry) but it was also meal time…so that’s to be expected! I had no problem spinning for 50 minutes yesterday either. I wouldn’t attempt to run without more carbs in my system, but I don’t have a problem with other types of cardio.

And, per usual, today on day three I woke up and looked at my profile in the full-length mirror and said, “HOLY SHIT!” Even after a day your tummy is flatter, but after three days it’s just like…WOW! Hello, little waist…I’ve missed you!

Today I’m taking my very healthy and on-track self to the gym for my fave spinning class with TWO gym buddies and then steaming after to feel even more detoxy. After the gym I’m starting the Core Fusion Challenge (SO excited!!)  and then I’m getting some work done before hitting the grocery store with a friend who may have fallen off the wagon on vacation…and post-vacation… She’s going to do the diet from the Feb issue of “Glamour,” which looks pretty good. We’re going to go egg-white and lean turkey CRAZY!

I miss nice veggies like broccoli and sugarsnap peas… I know I shouldn’t complain about fresh tropical fruit year round, but I’d knock someone out with a cassava for a blueberry and some kale.

I totally requested the book in the library! Can’t wait for it to come to meeee. This place looks awesome, a focus on mad fruits & vegetables, which I love.
