On Valentine’s Day, I was a little cranky, due more to the lack of sleep than the holiday. To perk myself up, I decided to update my Vision Board. There’s nothing like focusing on what you want to make you feel all warm inside! I didn’t make major changes, but I added a few new and important items to the board, and when I was done, I really felt quite good about my life.
I was thinking about how in Meeting Your Half Orange, she says that you have to tell everyone what it is you want. I completely agree. How else are you going to get it? I’m a firm believer that secret crushes and secret desires don’t do anyone any favors. I was thinking that I wanted to start a blog, sort of like the opposite of PostSecret — a blog where people can post their open secrets, because, hey, according to the laws of attraction, you have to ask. Out loud. With feeling!
Then I figured, why not just put the pictures on my blog? So that’s what I’m doing! I mean, if you want it enough to put it on a poster board, you should want it enough to share it with the world. Plus, I just love seeing what other people want; it’s so exciting!
So, I put out a call and started getting some VBs to share! Hopefully this inspires you to make one, as I get legitimately pissed when my friends do not have them (if you haven’t already read my original how-to, check it out here), If you have made one, I hope this inspires you to e-mail it to me with a little bit about you and your board so that I can share it and spread the inspiration!
To start things off today, I’ll share mine!
My VB is two-sided. The left side represents things that I am proud of, like running a half-marathon and a full marathon and starting Shedding It.
The right side represents the things that I want: mainly, a book deal with a great advance and an amazing relationship.
Of course, I love my stuff, so that’s all on there. I also want a new camera, a suspension trainer, and, though I do enjoy rocking my mom’s minivan, I really need a car (a hybrd!!). The Mac represents wanting a new computer and a sweet office (more on that later). Anyway, thinking in the long term, once I am a successful author, I want a classic Chanel bag and I want to go have a little chat with Oprah.
My VB also has three pictures of me when I was feeling very, very happy, which I think is an important thing to include!
Next up, we have my friend Tracy’s VB. Tracy was an interior design student and a few months out of college, she decided to go against the conventional wisdom and start her own interior design business. Tracy Garfield Interiors is doing great, mainly because Tracy is an absolute powerhouse. She’s taught me so much about the Web, social media, business, leadership…seriously, after our conversations, I feel like we’re both bursting with positive energy and ready to change the world!
Her board is beautiful, because she is a designer and all.
Tracy’s first big goal is to have her work featured in the Detroit News and Detroit Home; bigger goals are to buy a new car and Blackberry, to have a phat office, and to wear a designer dresses like this gorgeous one when she’s doing things like chatting with Matt Lauer about being a young entrepreneur.
Tracy and I have the shared goal of having a sweet office — and since we both work at home, we’ve been discussing sharing a house/office space one day! We’d have huge, gorgeous Mac desktops, we’d dress like Mad Men secretaries and drink like Mad Men executives, and we’d have our gay assistant managing our Twitter accounts from his MacBook across the room.
I really hope you’ll start sending me pics of your Vision Boards so I can continue to share them each week! Send me pics at ShedItAndGetIt@gmail.com.
Have a great afternoon!
