Yesterday when I checked the mail, I had something from the food company MaraNatha. Hmm…I thought. What ever could this be??
MaraNatha produces almond, cashew, peanut, and macadamia butters, along with other products like tahini and sunflower seed butters. I buy their almond butter pretty regularly; I tend to alternate it with Trader Joe’s.
So I opened the envelope, hoping it was something amazing and exciting…
So, coupons on their own are awesome, but this is particularly awesome because the letter says, “Congratulations! You have won second prize in the MaraNatha Spread the Word Sweepstakes!“
It took me a second to figure out what on earth this meant. I mean, free nut butter?! I’ll take it. But how? Why?? Then I remembered that last month I ended up on their Facebook fan page and came across the across the contest, which required you to upload a picture of you enjoying MaraNatha with your friends and family. I wondered if I should enter something funny and inappropriate? Like, “How I Enjoy Almond Butter With My ‘Man’ After We Read The Latest Issue of Cosmo”? I decided against it.
Instead I sent them this picture.
That would be oatmeal, pear, cranberries, white chocolate chips, walnuts, and a scoop of MaraNatha almond butter!
Apparently, they liked it because I won second prize! So now I get a free jar of nut butter which is awesome because that stuff does not come cheap. Seriously, pay me in good food any day of the week! I’m hoping to track down some of the macadamia nut butter, but if not, I’ll be happy to have my next jar of almond on the house.
This is why I love social media! Natural food companies are really good about utilizing it; if you check out their Web sites and follow them on Facebook and Twitter, you’re bound to get coupons, good recipes, contests, and other fun stuff. And it’s a good way to support your favorite brands and encourage this sort of stuff. I mean, we can all benefit from healthy swag, no??
