Pimp My Kitchen: Milk Vibrator

by Rachel on May 6, 2010

Good morning and happy Thirsty Thursday!! Today I thought I’d show you how I solved my morning coffee/sugar problem.

I’m pretty excited about this because my coffee is now sugar-free and fake sugar-free. It’s creamy without tasting like a Krispy Kreme. Just using whole milk was a good start, but I like the volume that frothing the milk adds to the drink…and the frothed milk is significantly sweeter! This morning I sprinkled dark chocolate on top too which was pretty damn tasty. I also just had the realization that I could shave some Vosges chocolate on top too. Venti foodgasm, anyone?

The other thing I wanted to point out is that when you use more milk, instead of just a weak “but I don’t want it to have calories!” splash of skim, you can really turn your cup of coffee into a snack or a meaningful part of your meal. I always tell people to start with a latte and almonds if they aren’t a breakfast person. The thing is, coffee drinks can actually be pretty good for you. You get calcium, filling protein, and, if you make it like this, you’re getting deliciously satisfying fat. Frothing a half-cup of whole milk to make a drink at home will give you the same amount of calories as a tall skim latte from the ‘Bucks, but it’ll be cheaper and more satisfying.

(Side rant: I’m pissed Starbucks got rid of whole milk but really talks up their sugar-free syrups. Missing the point, Starbies, missing the whole point.)

Anyway, if you want to own a milk vibrator, even though it looks kinda like an anal probe, mine is the Aerolatte To Go (which is way cheaper on Amazon than it is at Bed, Bath & Beyond, even when you account for my terrible math skills).

It also works for milkshakes and hot chocolate, so I’m pretty excited to experiment with it a little more! (Not experiment in other ways though, ya creeps. There are toys for that.)

We REALLY are on the same page today! I’m totally going to give this a whirl. My Starbucks addiction and my fake-sugar addiction really need to get under control…STAT!

Hey Rachel,

Love the blog! I look forward to all the new posts.

FYI Starbucks did not get rid of whole milk. The standard for drinks is 2% but you can request whole milk at no additional charge.

Another good way to add sweetness to your coffee with out sugar or splenda is Almond Brezze unsweetended Almond milk, it has a bit of a vanillaish flavor…. Yum!

You had me at hot chocolate…

So, despite the fact that I am not really a chocolate person, nothing does it for me like a cup of hot cocoa made with milk and a slpash of vanilla added. Vanilla extract might just be the best thing ever.

I make my own cafe au laits at home using a small glass jar. I use half a cup of whole milk, screw on the lid, and shake vigorously for 30 seconds then microwave for 30 seconds to warm the milk and stabilize the foam. Then, I pour it into my coffee and use a spoon to hold back the froth and finally spoon the froth on top.

The only problem I’ve run into is that after 5 days or so, the milk doesn’t foam up as well…so I guess fresh milk foams best.

I completely agree with you about the nutritional value of these kinds of drinks. Sometimes people label all drinks as “wasted calories” but that’s not necessarily the case!

I really liked this video – nothing like a little lol with my morning cup of tea. Also just wanted to say that your new title cards are great! They look more professional and a ton more fun than the old ones :)

I was just trying to go sugar free with my coffee and I just could not drink it. I will have to try this over the weekend.

This is one of the most useful things I have ever found on another blog. I’m going to see if a) I still have my BBB coupon and b) I can convince my fiance to buy this for me

what coffee maker do you use? I am a newbie to this whole drinking coffee thing, but trying to replace my diet soda habit with another caffeine source.

I used to just use a Mr. Coffee — nothing special! But now I use this cold press machine and I love it! Great for hot or cold coffee!! http://www.rachelwilkerson.com/2010/07/06/toddy-cold-brew-system-review/
