Any suggestions on how to do a vanity board on line?

@Sarah You can do http://www.picture2life.com/ or just Google “free online photo collage” and tons of sites come up! :)

Such a good reminder, Rachel! I don’t have outer vanity issues but I DO sometimes have inner vanity issues like “well maybe I achieved X by accident, maybe I CAN’T achieve this.” It is where I use yesterday’s rule of “Shhh!” to quiet it. ACTUALLY the board I shared with you seems now to be a combination vision/vanity board.

I needed this today, I really did.

I spend a lot of time talking down to myself… and it doesn’t seem to matter WHAT I accomplish, I’m always belittling it. So I lost 87 pounds, big deal… so what. I walked 60 miles last year for Breast Cancer Awareness, it wasn’t really that HARD… anyone could do it. I wrote a novel, so what, I haven’t DONE anything with it. Worthless. Useless. Boring. Stupid. Ugly. Fat.

I’ll work on this. I will. Thank you.

Thank you so much for this, Rachel! I think the advice to not use a too skinny picture was great. I’ve done that in the past, used a photo of me too skinny but not happy as “thinspiration” which is BULLSHIT.

Rachel, this post is amazing. You give some great advice and tips. I used to feel that way about myself and forced myself to stop reading womens magazines or looking at other forms of media that I found myself comparing myself to. Reading more books and searching out new magazines that focus more on other topics or try to raise women up (like Bust or Nylon) has been not only fun, but done a lot to help my self-esteem.

Awesome message, Rachel – I love that this is not about how to get somewhere else but to love yourself in this moment. I’m private about this kind of thing so I’m going to do an online version.

You need to start a women’s magazine that I would actually read!

Also, the quality of the video is excellent.

Love this post today. I suffer from very poor body image. I’m going to get started on this when I get home from work.
I’m curious if this is something you’ve always felt passionate about (like, you always loved yourself no matter what, etc) or just something you’ve had to work at.

@Sarah Syrup & Honey — Thanks for noticing the video quality! Something I’ve been working on. And starting a women’s magazine has always been a dream of mine…someday down the line…just planting seeds now… :)

@Bridget — I used to have HORRIBLE body image. Actually, my body image got worse when I lost weight and then sort of went the other direction and wanted to be really thin. It led me to tons of dangerous habits and it took me a long, LONG time to really love my body. I honestly don’t think I got *here* until this fall when I started marathon training.

I love how you pointed out what photos NOT to put on the vanity board. I actually felt kind of “convicted” when you said that because there is definitely a handful of photos where I think I look great, but looking back I was miserable inside. I wouldn’t even have considered that, though. How did you get so smart? :)

p.s. Do you think you could do a post on how to make better videos?? I’ve been trying to figure out how to make mine look more professional because I’m definitely falling short in that department…

LOVE this. I wouldn’t say I “hate” myself or my body but I definitely have days when I get down on myself (who doesn’t?). I think I’m going to bookmark this video to listen to on those days.

Quick question — what song is playing in the background?

I DEFINITELY need to do this…my lack of confidence totally holds me back personally and professionally, and whenever I think about my perceived shortcomings, I just push them out of my mind and never face them head on. A self-love board would keep my fabulosity up front and center and might even make me believe it! Thanks for the idea!
