Rise and Dine: Sparkling Smoothie

by Rachel on July 9, 2010

Good morning! TGIF!!

You guys know that my favorite kitchen gadget of all time is the Magic Bullet. I bought my first one two years ago and, well…I killed it. It’s been dying a slow and painful death from too much love and I knew it wasn’t going to last the week. So I headed to Bed, Bath, & Beyond to buy a new one on Wednesday (no time to even wait to have it shipped from Amazon!)…I didn’t want to risk a day without the MB!

It’s a good thing I was proactive. By yesterday morning, the original was a goner. I mean, I got my money’s worth. I melted the cord by leaving it on the stove a few times…and there may have been a lot of former smoothie and guacamole souvenirs encrusted in the base…it will be missed.

But I decided to welcome the new one with a great recipe!

  • 1-2 scoops vanilla protein powder
  • 1 cup iced green tea (just brew it hot the night before and then let chill overnight in the fridge)
  • 3/4 cup cubed honeydew melon, frozen
  • 1 tsp coconut oil
  • 1 tsp macadamia nut butter (if handy)
  • Fresh chopped mint (optional)

Put all the ingredients in the Magic Bullet…

Put it on the base, turn it on, and marvel at its speed and power. (Seriously, I didn’t even realize how bad the old one was!)

And if you call within the next five minutes…you get this amazing breakfast!

I just love this smoothie mix; it’s super refreshing for summer! It reminds me a little bit of the yummy tummy smoothie — just an unexpected and great deviation from what you’re used to!

I call it the “sparkling” smoothie because the honeydew really does give it a sparkly flavor (and the green tea adds a pick-me-up). The coconut oil and macadamia butter were two new additions that I added this time that worked out very well. You can also downsize the portions a bit for a great something-please-cool-me-off afternoon snack.

Whether you make your smoothies in the greatest infomercial product of all time or some silly blender, you should blend up this combination, because it’s delicious.

Sounds like a great summer breakfast – refreshing and filling. I love the idea of using tea for the flavor but also that little boost of caffeine.

I love kitchen gadgets! I’ve been thinking about getting some sort of chopper for when I don’t want the hassle of breaking out the food processor… Magic Bullet, you say? I do like the name!

Seriously one of the all time best kitchen gadgets, it goes in my gadget hall of fame. Love the honeydew in smoothie. I am a smoothie fiend, use green tea etc but the melon…how refreshing. Enjoy your MB and your smoothies!

You may have already covered this, but what section of the market do you find coconut oil?

It’s usually just with the other cooking oils! Kroger and Whole Foods carries it, but surprisingly enough, so does Wal-Mart. Look for organic virgin oil. I get mine off Amazon sometimes too!

I tried this yesterday morning and it was fantastic! My smoothies usually consist of frozen fruit, frozen banana, soy milk, blend. It’s nice to get another easy flavor combo in the menu!

I love smoothies but hated getting out the huge blender every day. So after I read this I looked into the Magic Bullet some more and decided to try it! I love it! Thanks for the recommendation!
