Feel the Love

by Rachel on September 3, 2010

Good Friday afternoon!

You know, I love reading all the serious and official owning it posts flying up around the blogosphere, but you know what I really love reading? The comments. The readers of everyone writing these posts are pretty much standing up and cheering and saying a big “THANK YOU” to the bloggers who are admitting there is more to them than oatmeal and running. It’s refreshing to read and it’s thrilling to see how positively the readers are responding.

The other thing I love about sharing these posts is that I know it’s introducing people to a lot of new bloggers. That’s such a good feeling, to feel like I’m helping with that. I love that people realize that anyone who is writing one of these posts is very likely a person they want to read more often. I’m so happy to have found new bloggers this way — my Reader is bursting at the seams!

And on that note, I just wanted to say THANK YOU to all of you who comment on my posts or on my Facebook Wall, encouraging me to keep owning it and letting me know that you’re connecting with what I’m writing about. I mean, I really thought I was the only one who couldn’t do the stupid reverse cowgirl, and yet apparently I’m not! Things like that make my day…but really, all the genuine, funny, passionate comments you guys leave are, for me, the best part of blogging. I also love how people have started interacting in the comments so much — I love creating a hub for conversation and literal LOLs. Thank you for getting to know each other and offering tips, advice, or just showing solidarity with each other. If you only read my posts and don’t read the comments, you’re seriously missing out!

And to all the new people who have come across my blog this week because of the owning it posts, I just wanted to say a big, “Hey, girl, heyyyyy!”

Thanks for stopping by, for coming back, for getting it, and for jumping right into the conversation when you have something to say. I love all the new voices; each post feels like a water cooler surrounded by so many funny, hip chicks. I’ve said it before, but I don’t say it enough: I LOVE MY READERS. You guys crack me up (seriously…ask anyone who knows me how often I snort into my Blackberry), give me ideas, tell me what I’m missing, inspire me, and generally just get my rocks off more than you even know.

Don’t ever hesitate to e-mail me, Tweet at me, or friend me and don’t apologize for creeping on my past posts…creep away!

Sorry for gushing, but I’m in love…with all of you. (Yeah, even you, “Anonymous 2.”) I just can’t help myself.

I just have to say, that reading your blog makes me more confident by the day.

As a senior in college, I have finally decided to start OWNING IT! I am smart, funny, sexy, athletic, curvy and kind, and I don’t care if guys can’t see that because they are MISSING OUT. Your insightful, funny as hell posts constantly give me the support and inspiration to say “sorry, but I’m not sorry” about everything in my life that means something to me but not others. To not care what they think, because sorry I’m not sorry that I’m respected by my professors more than my peers. To say, sorry but I’m not sorry that I want to save the world and be okay with the idealism in that statement. I have so much to thank you for, because I’m finally seeing what an incredible person I am – and seeing that doesn’t make me arrogant! Thank you, thank you, thank you for saying it’s okay to acknowledge my foxiness no matter what I look like, how much weight I want to lose, whether or not I want to work out, etc. I am owning every minute of my life and LOVING IT.

Kate — Seriously, that post made me stop what I was doing and, yes, brought some tears to my eyes. (I’m such a sappppppppp, I know.) But WOW. When you wrote that you can say, “‘sorry, but I’m not sorry’ about everything in my life that means something to me but not others” — ah I just feel like you NAILED IT. I’ve never thought about it before, but that’s so what it is…owning what makes YOU happy and realizing it’s YOUR life, and not something to be dependent on others’ judgment.

Thank you so much for this comment. I hope you continue to feel this confident and alive — I have no doubt that you will get everything you’ve ever wanted if you do.

And we love YOU!! I seriously look forward to reading your blog every day! And, because of you, I’m trying to make my own blog better. Of course, I still have work to do (hello, move to Wordpress!) and so reading your blog regularly reminds me to get off my ass and make improvements! But besides that, it is just so encouraging to know that others out there feel like I do, and have gone through some of the same struggles that I’m going through. Girl power, y’all!!!

Your blog is the first I ever recommend to people when I’m talking about blogs — mostly because you keep me in stitches and your advice is SO. DAMN. PRACTICAL. (Leave it to a Capricorn to comment on practicality – ha ha ha!) I’ll be reading for a while . . . :)

Thanks for saying it’s okay to be a bit of a creeper – I’ve been loving the archives, and I love coming to the latest entries a few times to see what all these brilliant women are writing. Then I realize I’m coming on the same IP address and feel awkward.

Anyway, I love this hub of discussion! Thank you for being a brilliant facilitator!

There has been such a girl power movement as a result of all of these “Owning It” posts. Seriously. I felt so crazy supported based upon the comments on my post…so much that I felt confident enough to launch this whole outlandish ‘bakery’ idea. I’m really doing it. It might fail, but at least I can die saying that I tried.

I wouldn’t have tried it if I didn’t own it.

Yeah. A cupcake named Rachel. Or maybe I’ll name it the Reverse Cowgirl.

And I want to know every last detail of your business plan!

Pleasssseeeee can I do your website?

Rachel,
Your blog makes my day, everyday! I am a college senior (at UVM in VERMONT… loved the shoutout!) and I am struggling with finding myself, not being ridiculous, etc… and your blog is helping me to own my LIFE! It’s like you’re talking right to ME in every post. Keep doing your thing, girl, and thanks for sharing it with the rest of us!

Kate — Thank you!! My senior year I did a lot of being ridiculous, figuring things out, etc. and whenever I write posts here, I always think of what I wish I’d known sooner to make things easier. So seriously, if I can help you get it faster than the three or so years it took me…then I’ve done my job!!

Just realized another Kate left the more eloquent version of my comment… Must be a senior Kate thing ;) Thanks again Rachel. You are DEFINITELY doing your job and we all appreciate it!

I just discovered your blog a few days ago but I.am.in.love. You are so beautiful, intelligent and witty that I don’t think I can stay away. I’ve been happily reading all your posts and even going back to read past entries. I wish I had found your blog sooner! It seriously pisses me off that I took so long.

Rachel-

I randomly stumbled on your blog a few months ago, and I just wanted to tell you how much I love it! Your straight up no bullshit advice is amazing and I wish that more people had that kind of approach. I am currently a college student so I find your posts so helpful, especially now when I’m learning to be more independent & “own” everything I do. Please keep it up!
