Meet the Owners 9/8/10

by Rachel on September 8, 2010

It’s that time again — time to look at who has been seriously and officially owning it!

A lovely showing this week, I must say…

Holly — “Sometimes I let life derail me.” This really struck me because I feel like most women would never say that out loud. Love that she owned it!

Melissa — She doesn’t come from shiny, happy people. Her family sucks. (Her words, but after reading the post, I have to agree.) “I don’t know how to fix these things and I’m exhausted from trying.” It hurt to read that line, but I think so many people can relate to it, and I love that she owned it and put it out there.

CJ — She framed her post around labels; even though she doesn’t like them, she has some for herself: law student, wife, foodie…maybe not “healthy living blogger.” Sorry she’s not sorry!

Queer Vegan Runner — OK, she had me at her “Who Am I?” page; I don’t think this is a blogger who has any trouble owning it. Still, this post is about how she and her partner do not allow any non-vegan food in their house and, well, tough shit. She also doesn’t allow people to be racist, homophobic, etc. Doesn’t allow it. Not “doesn’t like it.” Nope. Just doesn’t allow it. AMEN.

Yyyzzzpersona — I love all of her points, but I really love, “People are just too stupid to understand moderation,” in discussion of alcohol.

Arbama — Besides owning the fact that she will become a Food Network star, I really loved at the end of the post when she said that owning it more was a lifestyle change. Yeah, it’s true. But I can honestly say that the more you do it, the easier it gets!

Bess — A guest post for Angela about ending food guilt! On a recent vacation, she went on the see food diet. “The see food diet is probably the only diet I wouldn’t consider a 4 letter word: I saw food and I ate it.”

Leah — She goes to bed early like a little old lady. So she “can’t hang” — so what?! I literally LOLd at the line about her “bedtime party.”

Kaitlin — She owns trading her social life sometimes for being healthy. “The goals I set for myself — and my efforts to meet them — fulfill me.” So simple, but such a true, good reminder.

Jaclyn — She made it her September goal to own everything she does. “If I want to blog, I’ll do it. If I don’t, I won’t. I don’t even give a shit. I’m just going to own it all.” YESSSSS!

Christie — She’s estranged from her family and hasn’t written about it because she didn’t think people would understand. People did — this was one of the ones where I loved reading the comments. I also loved the line, “Relationships are hard. Toxic ones are pointless.”

Rebekah — I like Rebekah; she’s so ballsy. I’ve watched her own it without apology many other times, but I’m still flattered that she took the opportunity to do it again. “will i step on a few toes? um… i already have. will some people not like me? probably. am i scared? sometimes.”

Amanda — Her blog is about running, but she doesn’t do it fast. And I love when she points out that “friends” who don’t support her running aren’t real friends. It’s. So. True.

Maria — She sweats. A lot. Like, “medical condition” a lot. But I was actually really touched when she wrote about her husband’s reaction to her hyperhydrosis. “For the first time someone accepted me just as I was — something I’d never been able to do. It was a huge first step to learning to accept my own self and own my sweatiness.” I like it!

There! Aren’t we inspired?!

If you haven’t seriously and officially owned it yet, please do — grab the graphic, write your post, and e-mail me when you’re in the post-owning it afterglow!

I love when you do the “Meet The Owners” post. So many people have been positively affected by your “Own It” motto and that kicks a whole lotta ass. Heart you.

I’m late on the draw, but I love what you’ve started!! My OWN IT post! “No Meat? No Thanks.” And I know I’m re-stating what other peeps have already said, but yeah… I’m sick of the health bloggers who snap pics of the same breakfast/smoothie/food they eat every day. Easiest way to lose my interest as a reader. Rachel – you always have fresh, fun and new content with a health focus. Keep it coming!
