Lemme Work It: TRX-rated

by Rachel on September 10, 2010

As I said last week, one of my September goals was to hit the TRX twice a week. It’s on loan to me from my homegirl Elisabeth and I’ve been dying to use it.

Well, I had been dying to use it. I’d seriously wanted to try it out for months…but then when it arrived, I got a little scurred.

I mean, this thing is just a system of a few ropes. It allegedly supports you while you crunch, plank, push, and pull in all directions. I stared at it in its ropey pile every day for a week. I was distrustful.

After a few days of avoiding it, I realized, I couldn’t put it off any longer. I had to use the damn thing, even if it meant most certain death…or, more likely, most certainly sore abs.

I decided to just pretend I was being tied up. That’s pain I can handle.

I treated it like I would any new sexy toy — I took my time and was super careful. Slowly but surely, I got the hang of it. Yes, I would have loved to do a full circuit workout, flying through it and doing cardio bursts between each move, but that would be like whipping out handcuffs and a blindfold on the first date.

And I’m a lady.

The main question is: if it looks like a bondage device and it hurts like a bondage device…is it a bondage device?

I mean, when Elisabeth was talking about it, she said you could strap it on anywhere.

[…it’s too easy.]

And much like a new sexy toy, you know who is most excited about it? The BF. Apparently he and his work friends have already been getting themselves all soaking wet over it, talking about how they could totally put one up in the office. He’s all ready to try it out with me, and I can see why. You feel super buff and powerful when you’re doing it…and it also puts you in all sorts of interesting positions.

[…seriously, it’s too easy!!!!!]

It might be a bondage device, but it’s also a legit workout! I felt like I was a superhero with all the different moves, and I must say, fighting gravity (and evil?) as you’re suspended in different positions has got to be good for something. Some moves I dialed up a notch and made harder, while others are going to be the death of me. The planks are pretty brutal (you do them with your feet in the cuffs) but it was a “hurts so good” kinda thing.

And, ya know, I’m kinda into that.

This is a kind of workout that sounds even more fun than I’ve convinced myself traditional working out is :-0

Oooh, this makes me excited for my turn to try it in a few months! I love new workout contraptions. I can’t wait for your video, Rach. I’m thinking it might be more erotica than exercise, but we’re cool with that.

Did you get the instructional video with it? There are so many cool (and painful!) things we have our clients do with it! Let me know if you need some new or more challenging ideas. I LOVE that thing!

Heather – You get an intro DVD with your purchase. I’ve tried many of the DVDs :). My favorites are the TRX Boot Camp: Ropes + Straps 1 and TRX Boot Camp: Ropes + Straps Round 2.

I say you load a video – the exercise version! I think I’d be too klutzy on it.

NICE! how is my report EVER going to top this one?
ya know those ‘silly bands’ that kids are all wearing these days? well, my wife keeps refering to the TRX straps as my silly bands, as in, “When are YOUR silly bands coming?”
After reading this review, I hope they come TONIGHT! (tooo easy. twss)

The possibilities seem endless…exercise wise and sex wise. Perhaps I should invest in these…

LOOOOVE TRX. It’s an insane workout. my arms are always shaking by the end, and I think I can literally feel my abs getting ripped apart doing pikes, planks, and mountain climbers on this thing.

What the heck is it? What does it do? Your right, it does look like some sort of bondage device lol. Glad you had fun with it <–Why do I feel weird saying that, haha :D

I’m so excited to try it next month but I’m also a little scared like you were. I have images in my head of a “you’re too fat” alarm going off just before it rips… or of me just being too weak to properly use it.

Though the sex toy analogy makes me a little more excited to try it.

You’re never too fat to strap it on. ;-0

I have mine mounted in our living room with the ceiling X-mount. First thing our friends say upon seeing it is “something, something… nice sex toy…”. It’s pretty much amazing. Even more so when I roll outside with it and hook it up at the beach. Ahhhh!
