Sweet Treats

by Rachel on September 12, 2010

At CSN Stores you can get pretty much anything, from a coffee table to a laptop bag. I’ve seen their products popping up all over the blogosphere, and I suppose it’s because they have the things health bloggers want: cookware, bakeware, and…oh yes…ice cream makers.

Fact: the heat in Houston makes me want to eat frozen yogurt every single night for dinner.

Not after dinner.

For dinner.

Last night I was seriously so worn out from the heat and all I wanted was yogurt or ice cream. I was also too worn out from the heat to drive to get any, so I made another brie and apple pizza for dinner…and it was completely unsatisfying. After I ate it, I was just sad that I hadn’t gotten something cold…but I was still too sad/lazy/hot/over it to drive and get it. I wanted to work out, I wanted to write, I wanted to do something…but all I could do was crave a sweet treat and feel sorry for myself.

Then I remembered the ice cream sandwiches I made on Labor Day. And then I remembered they were at Eric’s. I texted him, “I’m booty calling you for an ice cream sandwich.”

And he rejected my offer!

Luckily, I remembered that frozen bananas can be turned into soft serve, and oh, that saved the day. I topped it with chocolate chips and some macadamia nut butter, and it melted almost immediately, but it was OK with me.

I’m not kidding…my whole mood changed and I finally felt more upbeat, relaxed, and productive. Thank goodness I remembered that…I was clearly getting desperate.

I’ve put off getting an ice cream maker for the longest time because I didn’t think I’d use it enough. After all, summer is only a few months long. Who eats fro yo in December? Yes, I’d love to be able to make the basil ice cream I’ve been fantasizing about for months, but I’d probably do it once and then it would be snowing again, right?

But after last night, I realized, um I don’t have seasons anymore, and I can and shall happily eat (healthily topped) fro yo for dinner every night, year round! And I need an ice cream maker if I’m going to avoid going broke and/or gaining five pounds from the tempting toppings at Swirll (where they are soon going to know my name).

Keeping in line with being awesome in all aspects, or perhaps just in an effort to keep me from going over budget and over my RDA of calories, CSN is going to hook me up with something to review. I’m hoping it’s an ice cream maker; honestly, at this point in my life and this close to the equator, what on earth would I do with a roasting pan?

I do bust out the ice cream maker when it starts to get hot, but I also bring it back into rotation every time the temperatures start to drop. We need spiced ice cream to go with all those hot desserts in winter.

Ohhh Sarah, this is why I like you! That’s a great idea!!

The MSU dairy store had AMAZING ice cream and the pumpkin ice cream was incredible. Yes, pumpkin needs to STFU right now, but damn…it’s good.

I think it would be a wise investment. As a So Cal girl, I live on fro-yo and ice cream year around (and then they hit us with seasonal flavors like pumpkin and peppermint to give off the illusion that we have seasons here, too). Even though it’d be an initial cost, I’m sure i’d save more $$$ (and inches off the waist – what, I promise there’s fruit under that pile of brownie and cheesecake bites) in the long run.

After I read the part about summer being only a few months, I thought, “Not there.” Then you said it yourself. :) I couldn’t handle the heat. I’m from the South and moved up North, and I never want to go back. I like having real seasons with snow, though now my winter lasts almost six months. So, there’s hope that you might totally change your mind and start loving year-round summer. :)

Cool that they are hooking you up with one to review! After reading the other comments, I want some pumpkin froyo or ice cream ASAP.
