Lesson #23: How to Redeem Yourself After Bad PR

by Rachel on September 12, 2010

I’m sure a lot of you recall the MaraNatha debacle and then the sort-of misguided attempt at redemption. Well, it looks they’ve got a new PR girl in the house, because I recently got an e-mail from someone different, apologizing for what had happened and offering to send me four full-size samples of MaraNatha nut butters.

They also sent me three coupons for free jars of MaraNatha nut butters and the maximum value on all of then was $19.99 — quite a difference from the original $4.99.

I’m not saying a company can buy my love, but it says a lot when a company listens to its customers. I’m thrilled about the free jars (seriously thrilled) but I’m also just really happy that they changed their coupons. That shows a sense of, “Let’s not let this happen again.”

And that’s impressive.

And more important, I’m glad they did this because now MaraNatha is welcome in my home again. When all that happened, I felt like I had gotten screwed over by a guy I really liked, and had that feeling of, “Oh, great, so now I have to hate you, and that sucks because you’re so cute.”

I mean, even though they messed up, it’s still a damn good jar of nut butter, and now I don’t feel bad for liking it so much.

Thaaaaank you Maranatha! This is awesome, Rachel! I read that post and was highly annoyed by what they pulled and then the comment they left.. not very professional. This more than redeems them!

Woo Hoo!! I am so glad they listened to. I remember reading and supporting you after your blogging about the $4.99 coupon. I am one of those people who will always fight for what I believe in and I am glad it worked out for you!! :) BTW, I wasn’t a huge fan of the sunflower butter.

Glad they made it up to you and all, but for what it’s worth they can still suck it. I mean nut butters are like the best kind of foodgasm because they make you feel all “This must be so bad because it’s soooo freakin’ good!” Kind of like when you do something so freaky that you feel a little naughty even though it’s with your man so yeah, you can legit be a freak. But, no matter how good MaraNatha can cream a nut I just have a salty taste in my mouth and I had to spit that shhh out!

That’s awesome that they corrected some of their wrongs. Warning though: the dark chocolate peanut butter will get you very addicted ;)

I literally just took a bite of it with vanilla ice cream…too much. Omg.

so great when a company cares enough to redeem themselves!

Wow, good for them making up for that! Obviously they know that you have super cool followers who listen to your rants and raves and want to make a good impression on you AND us!
