Press Play: A Very Special Beat

by Rachel on September 17, 2010

“I party like a rock star, look like a movie star, play like an all star, and f*ck like a porn star…”

That is the opening to my favorite rap song, Pitbull’s “Go Girl.” From the first time I heard it, I loved it. My senior year of college, every time it came on at the bars, I had sort of a Pavlovian response to start misbehaving. (And then I’d have my second “I just can’t help myself” moment whenever Miley Cyrus’s “See You Again” came on. I’d think, “I want to see you again!” and I’d reach for my phone. It was a popular song that year and I heard it a lot. The texting that that song caused…God, I’m still ashamed.)

Anyway, you know how much I love Mochi Beats and how I’ve pretty much insisted everyone download his free album and amazing tracks. Well, thanks to Twitter, we’ve become pretty friendly, and a few months ago I sent him a special request: could he make a mash-up using my favorite song of all time?

He said he’d do his best, and I felt like I’d commissioned an artist! And this week, he finished it.

!!!!!!!!

Not only is the song great, but HELLO — someone made me a song?! I’m not one of those girls who is into musicians and wants a guy to write her a song, but having a mash-up artist make me a special track is pretty damn thrilling.

The song can be exclusively downloaded via his Facebook page. Head there, “Like it!” and then you’ll get the download.

And then get your friends and I’ll get my friends and we can be friends and do this every weekend.

Oh, awesome! I remember when this song showed up on a previous Press Play post, and after hearing a short clip, I downloaded it immediately. Now I’m totally “That White Girl” at the gym, listening to the Kinda Rap White Girls Like. Can’t wait to add this new mash-up to my ever-expanding rotation.

Do you want me to send you the list of my five hours of music from the Disney half? It was extensive!
