Baby, Give It Up to Me: Cirque du Soleil Presents OVO

by Rachel on February 8, 2011

Do you like getting ideas for new fun things to do with your body?

Do you like having fun nights on the town?

Do you live in Texas and need something to do for Valentine’s Day?

Then enter my Cirque du Soleil giveaway!

The team behind the new Cirque du Soleil show OVO asked me if I’d like to give away tickets to my Texas readers and I said, “Yee-haw!” Here are the details on the show:

OVO by Cirque du Soleil is a headlong rush into a colorful ecosystem teeming with life, where insects work, eat, crawl, flutter, play, fight, and look for love in a non-stop riot of energy and movement.

I have two pairs of tickets to give away — a pair for the Dallas area show (running now through February 27) and a pair for the Houston show (opening March 10 and running through April 3).

To win, you just need to leave a comment on this post with the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Cirque du Soleil. Also, let me know in your comment if you’d like to attend in Dallas or Houston!

You have until Wednesday, Feb. 9 at noon PST (aka tomorrow at lunch) to enter and I’ll announce winners tomorrow night!

This is awesome! The first thing I think of are all the great reviews that come from people that have seen the show. I have not seen it and actually don’t know what it’s all about but I hope I found out!!!! :)
I’m in Houston btw

2 Meredith @ An Epic Change February 8, 2011 at 2:20 pm

NYC!! I saw them for the first time when I went to NYC (their winter show WINTUK) and I always associate Cirque with the big apple.

And I’d probably attend Houston so I could see you :)

Crazy people in leotards is what I think of…crazy awesome people anyways!

I’d love to see this in Houston! I have a friend that lives there and it would be a perfect date!! :)

When I think of Cirque du Soleil, I always wonder how long I would have to stick with yoga to get that flexible!

I would go to see it in Houston (because my boyfriend lives there).

5 Kaytee February 8, 2011 at 2:29 pm

Haha… honestly? The first thought that comes to mind is Cirque du Soleil’s Beatles show, LOVE, the soundtrack to which became the background music to my early college (ahem) herbal adventures.

And Dallas, of course, my dear. :)

6 Anetra February 8, 2011 at 2:33 pm

Vegas because all of my friends punked out on me when I asked if anyone wanted to go when we were in Vegas a few years ago. It would be so cool to see it in Dallas!

Thanks! Oh and you rock! Because of you I tried Spinning and found a new activity I love.

7 Marg February 8, 2011 at 2:36 pm

My trip to Vegas! I saw Zumanity and it was great! I’m in Houston.

8 Sara February 8, 2011 at 2:52 pm

The first thing that comes to mind when I think of Cirque de Soleil is Yoga and how I need to go more often because I have zero flexibility!! I have always wanted to see a show!

I am in Dallas!

9 Chrissy (The New Me) February 8, 2011 at 3:06 pm

Awesome giveaway! Way to show some Texas love. <3

When I think of Cirque du Soleil is crazy acrobatics and whether those moves could be used in the bedroom. ;)

And I'd choose to attend in Houston, as I live two hours north of you!

10 Liz February 8, 2011 at 3:10 pm

I think of Baltimore! I once saw their tent in Fells Point in Baltimore.

And Dallas!

11 Michelle February 8, 2011 at 3:32 pm

I think of my grandmother :) I saw my first Cirque du Soleil show with her.

I’m in Dallas! :)

12 Jill February 8, 2011 at 3:33 pm

Well when I went to the iTunes store this AM, the Beatles LOVE album for their cirque du soleil show was on the front page.

13 Vivien @ The Eclectic Life February 8, 2011 at 4:26 pm

1) Ohhhhhh my goodness! Free tickets to Cirque du Soleil is seriously a dream come true.
2) Awe-inspiring, amazing, beautiful and the most original performances around.
3) My friend Heather from Then Heather forwarded this post to me and I am STOKED! Even I don’t win, I’m still excited for the person who gets to see the show. That’s how much I love CDS!

14 Elena February 8, 2011 at 4:32 pm

I always think of the scene on Knocked Up where the two characters are watching Cirque after eating shrooms. Not that I would do that, just sayin..

I’m in Houston!

15 Rachel February 8, 2011 at 4:49 pm

I don’t live in Texas so unfortunately I can’t enter…but the first thing I think of is Patton Oswalt:
I can’t believe no one else has mentioned it…

17 Megan February 8, 2011 at 5:02 pm

The first thing that comes to mind is HOW DO THEY DO THAT???

I just moved back to Houston after living in Austin for a few years and would love to see the show!

18 Bridget@PavementandPlants February 8, 2011 at 5:27 pm

I think of marching band in college (this was a ridiculous show we did) and the following situation:
We kept screwing up the intro so our instructor came down and yelled at us. She said if one of us screwed up the next time, she was going to throw herself off the tower. Someone screwed up. She didn’t jump. We were kinda disappointed.
Here’s the show. Seriously. I’m dorky.

I’d attend in Dallas! (or Houston really..but prefer Dallas!)

19 Caitlin February 8, 2011 at 5:51 pm

The first thing I think of? It’s really more of a whine than anything, “Whhhyyyyy haven’t I gone yet??” My parents have seen multiple shows and just rave about it. I’d love to come to Houston and see it for myself! Either that or give them to my bro and sis-in-law and be off the hook for Christmas, Birthdays, Easter, Valentine’s Day, Columbus Day…..

20 WHitney Saenz February 8, 2011 at 5:53 pm

VEGAS!!! Not exactly sure why… but the first thing I think of is Vegas! I would LOVE to go to the show!! I live about 15 minutes from Dallas!!!

21 Veronica February 8, 2011 at 6:10 pm

I saw ‘O’ when I was in Vegas a while back, and so I recall the scene where they bring out a bunch of swings and dive into the water. All the acrobatics seemed so fun!
I would love to take my roommate to see this show! Her birthday is this month =] and she has never been to a Cirque du Soleil show. We live in Dallas.

22 Kristin February 8, 2011 at 6:23 pm

The first thing I think of is that scene in Knocked Up, when Paul Rudd & Seth Rogan eat the shrooms while watching Cirque de Soleil, and then sit in the hotel room with all the different chairs. The chairs crack me up!!! The scary looking things the shrooms make Seth Rogan see, not so much. Dallas tix, please!!!

23 Laura February 8, 2011 at 6:39 pm

I think contortion. That’s all I have to say. Dallas, please :)

24 Lindsay February 8, 2011 at 6:53 pm

Honestly.. I think of screwing and drugs. The drugs because of the movie Knocked Up and the screwing because I like to think of the possibilities if I were that flexible!

I am in Houston!

25 Alyson @ Nourished Fitness February 8, 2011 at 7:27 pm

Love love! I think costumes & contortionists :-)

26 Nicci (NiftyEats) February 8, 2011 at 7:58 pm

What a great giveaway, I’m in the Dallas area! First thing that comes to mind is the amazing beautiful costumes and acrobats swinging in the air.

27 Gaby February 8, 2011 at 8:05 pm

OH MG I love you! And I love Cirque du Soleil! The first thing that comes to mind is all the bendy acrobats. Back in my gymnast days I used to dream of running off to join Cirque du Soleil and performing while hanging off of ropes and being all contortionist like in beautiful costumes and maybe learning how to sing while I did it too.
And if it sways you in any ways, I’d let you have my second ticket and we could go together. I promise I’m much more bendy than Eric ;)

28 Colleen February 8, 2011 at 8:52 pm

The first thing I think of when I hear Cirque du Soleil: midgets in spandexy alien clown costumes. No, really. Have you SEEN some of the things they wear? Weird, but amazingly creative. Their costume designers and makeup crew deserve extra applause just for the way the performers look onstage. The singers are also darn talented as well! Thanks so much for the opportunity to win this giveaway! I love Cirque du Soleil.

29 Colleen February 8, 2011 at 8:53 pm

Oops! I forgot to say. I live in Austin, so either giveaway would work but Houston is closer to me!

30 Laura February 9, 2011 at 12:15 am

This is awful, but I always think of a guy balancing his face in the other guys junk! haha. My friends and I saw Mystere a few years ago in Vegas. We were SO amazed by the two men who do all the balancing acts on one another. We secretly snapped photos and then debated whether or not they were gay. Not that it matters, but a fun conversation to have when you see one guy with his head balancing in the other guy’s crotch!

I’m in Dallas and would LOVE to take my man because he’s never seen a show!

31 Theresa February 9, 2011 at 1:02 am

The first thing I think of is “Is that for real??” Contortionists never cease to amaze me! Houston!

32 Laura February 9, 2011 at 8:10 am

When I think of Cirque du Soleil I think of this old video we had of one of their performances when I was little. I used to watch it ALL THE TIME! I would watch it with wide eyes and dream of being an acrobat. Now whenever I think of it so many feelings of nostalgia just come rushing over me. I would love the chance to go and see it live in Dallas!

33 Emma February 9, 2011 at 9:51 am

What a cool giveaway!! When I think of Cirque du Soleil, I don’t have a lot of thoughts, so much as *feelings* of extravagance and movement. The thought I *do* have is of the night we spent in Vegas for my SO’s birthday. But the first thing sounds more romantic. And Dallas, please! I actually live in Austin, but would love an excuse to go to the H&M there. Thanks!

34 Kristi February 9, 2011 at 9:59 am

The first thing I think of is “a body can do that??!!”

I live in Dallas, the boyfriend is in Houston, so either one is good for me.

35 molly February 9, 2011 at 12:19 pm

When I think of Cirque du Soleil I think of an amazing time in Las Vagas when we were unexpectedly blessed with front row seats! It was a crazy several hours where I never knew where to look because so many unbelievable things were going on right before my eyes!

36 Erin February 9, 2011 at 1:47 pm

I think of Vegas and what an awesome date night that would be! Would love to see it in Dallas.

37 Giant Sis February 9, 2011 at 4:34 pm

Mysterious! I’ve never seen a Cirque show, so I have no IDEA what to expect. I’ve just heard how amazing it is! I don’t want to ruin it by doing too much research…

I’d love the Dallas tickets!
