The Life: Happy October

by Rachel on October 1, 2011

As soon as I woke up this morning, I felt happy because I realized it was the first day of my favorite month of the year! I don’t know what it is about October, but I always seem to enjoy every single day of it. I’m also thrilled because it’s starting to feel like fall in Houston. I mean, at 80 degrees, it’s not exactly sweater weather, but it feels distinctly cooler and more like fall today and it’s wonderful.

I’m ready to go into full Halloween planning mode! First, I finalized costume plans yesterday. I tend to plan my costumes a year in advance and this year is no exception — I had this idea during the Halloween party last year and it’s still at the top of the list. Eric and I are going as a bull in a china shop. He’ll be the bull and I’ll be the china shop (although the reality is, I should probably be the bull). My mom and I talked this morning and she’s going to make him a bull costume from scratch; unfortunately, since we’re in different states, it would be a pain for her to make my entire costume. I’m bummed, because all her costumes are amazing, but I’m going to buy a dress to serve as the basis of my costume and she’s going to turn it into a china shop. I’m going to need a lot of teacups.

October also means adding to the decorations I bought a few weeks ago, perhaps with some cool pumpkin decorations like these, which I love.

I’m also ready to start thinking about my favorite Halloween party foods! Here is a list of my favorites from the past two years:

Halloween Party Recipes

Naked Pumpkin Chili (You’re naked, not the chili)

Butternut Squash Pizza

Cheddar and Apple Hot Dogs

Baked Pumpkin Pasta

Apple Stuffed Acorn Squash

Vegetarian Chili

Spiced Pumpkin Mini Bread

Beer Bread

Halloween Party Treats

Stoned Trail Mix

Pumpkin Margaritas

Pick Your Poison Punch

S’more Brownies

Snickers & PB Muffins

I’m off to go enjoy more of this beautiful October day — hope you have plans to do the same!

I wondered why you were looking for lots of tiny teacups! That is a great costume idea – I can’t wait to see it. It was cold this morning when I got up, so I’m looking forward to a cookout with s’mores tonight!

I was ridiculously excited when I saw candy corn was back in stores!! AZ is still hotter than the pit of hell but it’s time to pretend we have seasons here and officially announce that Fall has arrived :)

LOVE the lace-covered pumpkin. Saw a cool pumpkin online this weekend — It was painted all black then black glitter was drizzled down on it from the top. So chic!

Oh cool — share the link if you can find it! I debated doing glitter instead because I couldn’t find rhinestones in bulk at Michael’s this weekend.
