Rachel Getting Merry: A Productive & Relaxing Holiday Weekend (+ giveaway winners!)

by Rachel on December 12, 2011

This weekend was the perfect ratio of productive and relaxing.

Productive & relaxing activity #1: shopping. Um…shopping for myself, unfortunately. It just hasn’t set in yet that 1. Other people might be buying me gifts and 2. I need to figure out what I’m buying for other people and probably put my resources into that.

That damn Williams-Sonoma.

Actually, damn every company who sells items with reindeer on them. I’m a sucker for a good buck.

Productive & relaxing activity #2: making and eating delicious treats. I spent yesterday making peppermint bark, sugar cookies, lasagna soup, and washing it all down with Shiner’s holiday beer.

Productive & relaxing activity #3: updating my Christmas music. OK I don’t know how productive this activity really  is, but I like to add a couple new Christmas albums to my collection every year. My additions this year are: (Red) Christmas by The Killers (modern), What a Night! by Harry Connick, Jr. (classic), and Christmas Cheers by Straight No Chaser (an a capella group — fun).

It was quite a wonderful weekend and now that we’re back to the daily grind, I wanted to start the week off by announcing the winners of the two giveaways!

First, the ten randomly-selected winners of the Florida grapefruit tote and water bottle giveaway.

#55. Stephanie

#30. Samantha M

#51. Madelyn

#14. Angie (so excited to see this win since she actually made the recipe over the weekend!)

#71. Heidi Nicole

#46. Becca S.

#39. Mitra

#59. Parita

#45. Chrissy

#3. Kim

Second, the three randomly-selected winners of the Flytrap giveaway!

#71. Ashleigh

#8. Heather

#30. Ana

Ladies, I will be in touch in the next couple days to get your mailing addresses. And thank you to everyone who entered! If you didn’t win, don’t despair — I have at least one more giveaway planned for this week.

Productive & relaxing activity #4: making gift guides. Finally! I love gifting but organizing the whole thing takes effort. I finally got around to doing it, so now maybe I can stop buying things for myself and start doing some holiday shopping. Anyway, the first gift guide is comin’ atcha later today!

As per usual, I’m keeping up my standard ration of 1 gift for someone else; one gift for me.
Tis the season for self-indulgence!

I LOVED the Shiner holiday beer, more than I expected to actually. It has hints of peach but isn’t too fruity!

So fitting that you bought the Straight No Chaser ablum! That group originated at Indiana University and their anual holiday concert was this past weekend on campus. I’m sure you puppy is proud!

I just heard Straight No Chaser for the first time, when it came up on Pandora. You might also like the She & Him Christmas album!

OMG I WON SOMETHING. This is seriously the first contest I’ve ever won, I think. Yay! Thank you!

Also, I totally *snirk’d* at the “I’m a sucker for a good buck” line. Hee hee.

(Sorry to be nitpicky, but the link you have for my name is incorrect, btw.)

lol @ Jessica — that’s totally my (unintentional) motto. I can’t help but do that. I feel a little sad when I don’t have something for myself after a day of shopping! Soo bad.

Thanks for the grapefruit prize Rachel!! The margaritas were a hit with me, my boyfriend and his brother — they’re both grapefruit haters too. So excited!

Oh my goodness! I couldn’t believe when I read my name that I had won. YAY!

I have to same. My perfect weekend involves a lot of #2. I love cooking. I love baking. I especially love cooking comfort food. So much so, that I cook for my co-workers and I lunch once a week. This weekend we had Shepard’s Pie. Got to love wonderful winter comfort food that sticks to your bones. Although, now I am getting an itch to bake sugar cookies.

I keep thinking up great DIY-ish gifts that really are awesome but then I suck at the follow through. I’m pretty sure that this years gifts are going to be New Year’s presents rather than Xmas…I suppose its a good thing we won’t be flying home and I can blame the delay on the mail!

And yay for being a winner! :)

Yay! I won!

I would like to thank the Academy, my producer, my director and the fans! Without the fans, I am nothing!
