The Life: CultureMap’s Fashion on Sale (+ a giveaway!)

by Rachel on January 11, 2012

After hearing about my plan for making friends, Houston’s own CultureMap reached out to me about their upcoming event Fashion on Sale. It seemed like a great friend date!

From CultureMap: “It’s  set  to  be  the  city’s  largest  collection  of  women’s  boutique  retailers  in   one  space  offering  end-‐of-‐season  clothing  and  accessories  at  can’t-‐beat  prices.   Some  of  the  30+  presenting  retailers  to  date  include:  7  For  All  Mankind,  a  bientot,   Alexandra  Knight  Handbags,  Atrium,  Azur  West  Salon,  Carrie  Ann,  Ceron  Salon,   Cheeky  Vintage,  Coquette,  David  Peck  Collection,  Edward  Sanchez  Cosmetics,  Elaine   Turner,  Hello  Lucky,  J  Silver,  Korcula,  Lot  8,  Mary  Nichols  Handbags,  One  Green   Street,  Pomp  and  Circumstance,  Rent  the  Runway,  Squared  Away,  The  Blues  Jean   Bar,  The  Do  Bar,  Tootsies,  Vintage  Contessa  and  Woody’s  Furs.”

Uh, you had me at 7 for All Mankind.

There are also a bunch of events all weekend; I love me some beauty demonstrations, but I’m also really excited for the “cocktails and light bites.” I mean, I love lip gloss, but I really love party food. But apparently there will also be faux lashes for everyone, and that might actually excite me more than wine and micro-sliders.

It’s going on this weekend, January 13-15, and you can select your tickets based on how many events you’d like to attend: VIP tickets for $75, Early Entry for $40, or one day General Admission for $20. There’s also a “Man Cave” wrist band; for $12, you can drag a guy (or really any non-shopping enthusiast) along and then let him feast on beer and wings while you buy cute stuff. I’ll be there throughout the weekend, so if you do plan to attend, leave a comment or shoot me a Facebook message so we can be sure to say hello!

And if you’re interested in attending and haven’t bought tickets yet, I have two general admission tickets to give away. (So you can perhaps invite that girl you’ve had your eye on as a potential friend! See also: “Come up with good date ideas.”) To win the tickets, just leave a comment below telling me what you prefer: cocktails and party food, trying on beauty products, or trying on clothes?

I’ll pick a winner at random tomorrow (Thursday, Jan. 12) at noon CST.

Why am I only picking one?!? I think I most like beauty products though. But I just envisioned myself with a martini, white face mask, and some Choos on.

Very hard decision. I love great cocktails and bites as much as the next foodie; however I’m a girlie girl and fashion fanatic. I would have to choose trying on all of the fabulous clothes.

I love cocktails…..and especially love cocktails when I’m shopping. So do the sales clerks. Because after a few cocktails I start thinking I MUST HAVE EVVVVERYTHING. This probably isn’t something I’d go to without winning free tickets, so if I win them, I’ll be going!!! (And my bank account will probably hate me for it)

I LOVE trying out beauty products. It is a great way to learn some new tricks and discover great products. I would love to check out this event, especially since I just returned to law school this week and could use some retail therapy!

Cocktails + trying on clothes should be a category of its own. Everything looks good on me when I’m a drink or 2…or 3…in! (The ceiling is at 3 though. Any more drinks and my dress is riding up, my bra is somehow showing, and everything is too tight. Courtney Love style.)

Cocktails + party food ftw. There hasn’t been a beverage or appetizer that I can’t get down with (which probably is why I don’t like trying on clothes ha!)

However might I add, I still LOVE purchasing certain clothes…and shoes & jewelry of course. Wow, almost wrote myself right on out of the contest with the “I don’t like trying on clothes” bit. Geez.

Sign me up! I wish I kept up more with these adventures. My plan is to eat healthy this month only to eat with my heart’s desire during Mardi Gras, but cocktails and party food would have been my first choice. Trying on clothes seems like a perfect wind-down from a stressful week at work!

Trying on clothes!!!! First look at all the beauty mags you can, read all the blogs you can, look to your friends, family & co-workers for inspiration….then try on everything! Especially what you normally wouldn’t, you’ll find that perfect outfit!

I think I want the lash extensions the most!! but I do love trying on clothes. I’m a sucker for free food but usually those light bites mean a lot of cheese and meat :\
