After I asked what what you’re all willing to spend on a dress that you love, a great discussion ensued in the comments. Apparently, I’m not the only person who struggles with convincing herself to buy new clothes or figuring out a clothing budget. All the comments were great, but I wanted to share a few of the ones I really liked:
“I think that really depends on the person and the budget. I recently read that a reasonable amount to spend on your clothes is 3-10 percent of your salary (read that here).” – Jessica
“OK, sure the dress cost $128, but if you wear it once or twce a week all season, that’s only $10-12/wear. If you needed a dress to wear one tme, say for an event, would you spend more then $12 on it? Of course you would, so why should you feel bad about spending that much per wear for a dress you really love?” – Jodi
“Sometimes when I am on the fence about a purchase I consider how much work I have to do to get it. If I’m being paid hourly I use that (and when I’m salaried I you know, do the math and figure out how much per hour I make). Is this dress worth five hours of work? 10?” – Marie
Shabby Apple
After I published the post, I got an e-mail later that afternoon from the team at Shabby Apple, a women-run online clothing shop that has tons of dresses. What I love about this site is that their dresses are really versatile, which is the first thing I look for when spending my hard-earned monies a dress. (Also, I say “monies” pretty regularly in conversation because it makes me laugh.) I also like the fact that they have a ton of options, but I don’t feel overwhelmed like I do on other women’s online dress shops. (Cough, Modcloth, cough.) Oh, and 5 percent of their net sales goes to helping women living in poverty get microcredit loans. Good stuff. Why hadn’t I ordered anything from Shabby Apple until this point? Good question! I think I’m still a little gun-shy when it comes to buying clothes online when I’m unfamiliar with the brand. But they have well-written sizing descriptions and free return shipping, so that’s really no excuse.
They offered me a $100 gift card to give away to a one of you and said I could try a dress for myself. It wasn’t easy to choose one, and I got very distracted by all their cute swim suits, but I eventually chose the Puca Pucara dress, which I loved for its defined waist, navy blue top WITH SLEEVES!, and full skirt. And because it reminded me of something Eva Mendes would wear. I took them at their word that it fit generously and ordered an extra-small.
I didn’t know what to expect in terms of fit and quality (and was skeptical of that sizing!) but when I took it out of the package and slipped it on, it zipped up perfectly…and then I kind of fell in love with it. The cut is really flattering with my body and the 100 percent cotton material is really light and breathable. I wish it came in a few solid colors because it’s seriously the kind of dress I’d be happy to wear every day and just be done with it. One downside is that it has to be hand washed, something I’m seeing in a lot of flattering casual dresses, and something I haven’t really mastered yet (tips would be appreciated!). It’s also a little long for me to want to wear with flats, but I’m thinking I’ll have it tailored so I can wear it more often.
I’m officially a Shabby Apple fan! The prices are really reasonable, the selection is great (they go up to a size 16, and because many of their items run big, I’m guessing it’s more like 20-22), and I dig what the brand is all about. I will definitely be looking there first when it comes to looking for new dresses (and probably skirts and swim suits as well).
The Part Where I Give Something Away
If you’d like to enter to win a $100 gift card to Shabby Apple, just head to their website and check out the selection. Then leave a comment on this post letting me know:

Ooh! I would get the El Capitan!!
Love the peplum!!

My honest answer would probably be “Everything!” but I would choose the Polly Hill Poppy Short Dress: http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-1613-polly-hill.aspx
Working in an office all day can be so boring and so uncomfortable. I want to look cute and feel good after 8-9 hours at a desk, and I think this wrap is a great combination of fun and exciting and flattering, but also really easy to wear and still feel comfortable at the end of the day.
Thanks so much for running this contest! I LOVE Shabby Apple!
First, LOVE that dress on you! Looks fabulous & I agree, very Eva Mendes-chic. Thanks for the giveaway opportunity; it’s always fun to try for these types of contests.
[1.] It was HARD to narrow it down, but I adored their coral wrap dress called Veni Vidi Vici.
[2.] Wrap dresses are one of the most versatile pieces that you can have in your wardrobe! They’re comfortable & flattering and can be worn anywhere – from over a bathing suit on vacation to the office w/ a great pair of heels. I especially love the color and fun, retro silhouette of this dress; both are great for my pale skin & athletic figure.

I like the Cayenne
I really like the gathering/ruching arounf the waist area! Very flattering!

That dress looks great on you!
Of course I can’t pick just one. I love the Baciami (or the Tiber, which looks to be the same dress but in a navy stripe), the Bali Ha’i, or the Maple. I’ve been dying for a dress with a great stripe, like the Baciami or Tiber. I need more colorful dresses because most of mine are navy, gray, black, etc. so the Bali Ha’i, Baciami, or Tiber would be perfect. The Maple makes me feel like I should put on a little hat and be Jackie Kennedy!
1.I love the Alice and the Red Queen. The hardest part would be choosing which color to order.
2. I love the lace detailing and the defined waist. Very Kate Middleton without the 3/4 sleeve.
I think I’d get the streetcar skirt. I’ve been looking for something high-waisted. :)
http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-1501-streetcar-skirt.aspx
I would love the side saddle dress. It’s different and I think it would be a great dress to wear to both weddings and casually. I used the dress finder for your shape and this is one that popped up. It also told me my style icon is Beyonce. Not bad :)

1) I love the Elizabeth Islands wrap dress! (http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-1612-elizabeth-islands.aspx)
2) I love the color, I think wrap dresses are so flattering, and it looks really cool – a perfect dress for summer =)
I would get the San Gabriel dress! So cute, very easy to match accessories with, easy enough to wear into the fall, and I LOVE the buttons!
http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-580-san-gabriel.aspx
I would choose either the dress that you have because it would look great on my body type, OR I’d choose the “Scared Falls” dress because I love the blue color, I could wear it to work and I think it’d look good on me! :)
Jessie´s last post ..Case of the Mondays…
So many pretty dresses to choose from, but if I had to pick one I’d choose either the Puca Pucara Dress (love the combination of colors) or the Quipu dress (love the bow).
The Side Saddle dress is so unique. Love it. I wonder if I could pull it off. Then I start looking through the flirty collection, & everything is so playful & sweet. I like the idea of pairing dresses like these with boots. Barefoot in the Park (in buttercream). I want that whole outfit. I really like accessories pulling together pretty, simple clothes.
Allie´s last post ..the weekend.
I love love love the Andes Skirt. It’s adorable and looks like something I could wear casually or professionally. Win win!
Love that dress! The pattern is great, I’m always afraid patterns will be overwhelming or unflattering and this totally is not at all.
I’ve actually been lusting after the idea of the perfect blue dress. I don’t wear dresses very often so to a) want a dress and b) be able to find a dress that suits my style is not easy. I tend to be a little preppy, and little hipster, and a lot of comfort. But voila! Here on Shabby Apple the *perfect* blue dress…kind of exactly what I had in mind:
http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-723-gray-fox.aspx
Jeeeez, I love the dress you choose! Soo flattering and cute. Spend all the moniez!
I’m slightly partial to this maxi (in cobalt!): http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-1570-serenade.aspx
I have YET to find a Maxi I love. I’m not sure my short and slightly pear-shaped frame is meant to wear a long dress (Usually I’m trying to emphasize my butt, not my boobs) but I really dig the fun and casual style. Plus the the little knot is sure to help my cleave situation, right?
There are SO many I want to choose! But I think I’d pick the North Shore but it’s classic (and classy!) with a cute twist (the little flowers!). I love it! Plus I agree with you- it also has sleeves! Love!
Amy´s last post ..Great recipes
I love the Overboard dress. I feel like gingham is the perfect fabric for summer, and the red belt adds the right amount of pop! Plus, I’m really hourglass shaped, so I need a dress that goes in at the waist. It’s perfect!

I love them all, but my eye is so drawn towards the Heart of Me: http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-1523-heart-of-me.aspx

I’m so glad that you got a dress from shabby apple, because I have been lurking on that website for forever and now I have a review from someone I kind of know (ok, read on the internet, but you know, whose opinion I trust) and that dress looks great on you!
1. The Bernini dress
2. BECAUSE I love prints but I don’t really own many print dresses. I also really like the belt and the sleeves!
Your dress looks gorgeous on you. Great giveaway! I LOVE the Twin Palms (http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-1528-twin-palms.aspx) – I love that shade of yellow and the dress looks like it would be very flattering on me. I’d feel great in it.
Dori´s last post ..Sparkly Soul Headband Giveaway
1. LOVE love LOOOOOOVe the Primavera dress. It looks a lot like the one you chose, but it’s orange. Also, I’d like your dress too!
2. I’ve been looking for something to POP up my wardrobe with especially with it being summer. I feel like orange would be something that could easily be worn for Fall (yay leaves!) and for Spring.
1. Ipanema
2. Love the bright colors so, so much. I always joke that I choose everything from clothes to kitchen appliances like a kindergartener —give me as much color all together as possible! And also, it would be flattering on me. With my skin coloring and hair, I can pull off any dark/vibrant color… no baby blue for me!
I haaate to be a copycat, but I just LOVE the Puca Pucara dress! I think the solid navy on top balances out the vibrant skirt, and it would be perfect for my upcoming vacation to Puerto Rico!
I’ve never heard of Shabby Apple, but wow their dresses are adorable! I would definitely want to get the Nantucket dress. I have a tendency to go with styles that are really classic with simple silhouettes (and usually in black!). I think this is partially due to laziness. I’m not much of a fashionista in terms of wanting to seek out new trends or experiment with mixing styles, etc. I just want to wear stuff that looks nice on me!
My favorite is the Elizabeth Islands Dress! Looks so soft, comfortable and versatile. I love to own clothes that I can wear over and over and often, and this looks like something I could really live in!
The Ballerina dress, which is kind of conservative choice for me . . . but I love the color, it looks ridiculously comfy, and I could wear it with my beloved doc martens.
I love the Shanghai dress and the one that you purchased! Tons of great dress options…
I love Shabby Apple. They have beautiful things! I would have to choose the P&O in Rhodolite, as right now I am not at my best weight. (but I’m working on it!) This would be great to wear to a wedding I have coming up!
Hand washing: I’ve always washed hand wash items in the washer, on gentle, cold water, a wee bit of detergent, and they’ve been fine. No dryer. Just wanted to tell you that!
What an adorable site! I love them all.
1. I especially love the Pina Colada dress: http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-926-pina-colada.aspx
2. I think the gathered waist and 3/4 sleeve would be flattering, and the yellow print is super fun and summery!
While it took me an extremely long time to decide on what I would get I think I narrowed it down to the Hyannis skirt. It has a great nautical feel (which I will never get tired of) and is a good bottom for any brightly colored solid T.
I adore the mint Alice dress. I’m crazy about that color right now and love the femininity of the lace. Could easily be dressed down for the office or dressed up for a night out!
I would order Alice – http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-1414-alice.aspx – because I have been seeing some awesome lace designs on some of my favorite fashion bloggers lately and I want in! Plus I don’t own anything in Mint yet. :)
I love the Boomer boots! They are a little out of season, but I’ve been looking for a nice pair of black boots that have a little bit of a motorcycle edge while still being classy and sophisticated. The buckles are subtle and their overall look is totally versatile. Love them!
I love the Nantucket dress! I like that it’s long enough for me to wear to work and the A-line shape seems super flattering!
I like the Bijou dress. I feel so much more comfortable in short-sleeved dresses. It makes it more work appropriate and I don’t have to feel self-conscious about my upper arms!

I love the Mariposa Grove dress. It is a little different from the dresses I usually go for, but I think it would be flattering to my body and I love the bright green color.

I would pick the Blue Eyes dress! I love anything with a 1950′s style (Mad Men!!) and the polka dots are so cute. Oh… and I have blue eyes :)
I would love the Tanglewood dress! It would fit my body shape really well (pear) and the colors are really classic. Could wear it for work or a more formal outing.
So many cute options to choose from! I can’t decide between the Champs Elysees, Nantucket and Primavera. I just love the classic 50s styling that can be dressed up, worn to work, or out and about running errands oh so chicly.
Hey Rachel!
I have been following your great ideas with your gradeschool friend Alison for three years now… bacon and chocolate chip cookies were scrumpt!
I’ve never heard of Shabby Apple before, but I really like a lot of their stuff! If I had to choose, my favorite would be the Mad Hatter Lace Dress. http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-1420-the-mad-hatter.aspx
It’s the perfect mix of sexy, classy, and hipster for my med school graduation!!!!
Thanks for all your ideas and stories!
I love the co-ed skirt! The shape and the buttons caught my eye. I think it would be very versatile for work and for a weekend event too!

I was drawn to a lot of dresses, but I think the Primavera dress is my absolute face. I’m also a big fan of defined waistlines and full skirts, and I love the vintage/ retro feel of the dress. Plus, I love the color!

I am not a big dress wearer but wanted to expand my horizons and wear something besides jeans all the time. I like the grey Vineyard Sound dress as it says “wrinkle-free packing, day-to-night dressing, and an unquestionably comfortable fit.” that would be my kind of dress.
i’m really liking the side saddle – http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-1279-side-saddle.aspx
i’m into the whole shift style dresses. and i don’t have any dresses in this color! it’s so pretty!
There is so, so much, but I have had my eye on the Red Queen for a while – it’s perfect. The color is so bold and the cut is so sweet and ladylike… I just want to wear it to everything.
Also, do you read the Hairpin? Their Ask A Clean Person column has excellent tips on cleaning problems, and they just did a section called laundry school with tons of tips for every laundry situation. So now we can take care of our new dresses! :)

I really like the overboard dress, but now that I’ve seen the puca pucara dress on, I’m in LOVE! I love the a-line skirt & fun print mixed with the solid top.
I like the “Malt Shop” lace dress – I like the lace theme and this dress doesn’t seem too over the top.
Ooooh the pink Golden Afternoon dress. I love it. It looks like you could wear it out to dinner or a wedding. I love dresses like that.
I am so thrilled you featured Shabby Apple! I’ve been following them on Twitter/Facebook and stalking their site for over 6 months and I’m in love with their classy, timeless style. As someone that empathizes far too much with Sir Mix A Lot, I have a ridiculous time shopping for shorts and pants because my butt is just too big. And so, I stock my closet with pretty dresses to flatter my rear end, making stores like Shabby Apple a necessity for me. My favorite is the Overboard dress, because it screams summer and looks so easily dressed up or down.
Regardless of the Give Away, I’m excited you found Shabby Apple!
Well, let me start off by saying I LOVE clothing sites where you can sort by everything imaginable. Let me also add that when I have a giftcard or money to spend that I didn’t have to actually do hard work for, I usually go for something with a much bigger “punch” if you will – not anything neutral or the “go to” pieces. Why would I waste free money on something safe?? That is sure to get no compliments (i.e. excuses to share that I won a giftcard and got this wow-factor outfit).
That being said, I sorted by color and went straight for the YELLOW! Hello summer, I LOVE yellow! I would definitely get the “Twin Palms” dress – talk about brightening up your own day!
I’d order the dress “The Movies” because it’s so classic :)
Ooh that dress looks great! I really loved this dress:
http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-580-san-gabriel.aspx
but they don’t seem to have it in stock in my size. :( sad panda is sad.

Looove the Carnival dress in cobalt. I love dresses that I can wear during the day/to work/to a party. This one fits the bill. Definitely makes me feel like I’m getting my money’s worth!
so hard to chose just one!
but if i have to.. desert modern – it looks so comfy, yet stylish and i love, love, LOVE maxi dresses.
I LOVE the After Class dress and the Champ Elysses as well as the dress you purchased. I am in academia and while fashion isn’t important to most of my colleagues, it is to me. The dresses on the Shabby Apple site are a perfect mix of fashionable and appropriate for me to wear to present my research at a conference!
I think I’d pick the Block Party. Such a classy cut but the colors make it fun!
I would choose the Lighthouse. I love wearing extremely feminine dresses to work. I’ve attended so many seminars telling women to “dress like a man” in the engineering world. No thank you! Those “rules” won’t change if we don’t push against them…so bring on the girly dresses!
The Nantucket:
The color!
The cut!
That collar!!
So chic, so simple, and so versatile–from flats to heels, a belt to a scarf, this dress has the potential to fit every possible event and wardrobe need. Stunning!
I would pick the Beachcomber dress. It’s red stripes! I love both of those. It looks very casual and comfortable but could be easily dressed up with the right shoes and accessories.
Oh goodness, so hard to choose, the selection is too wonderful!
I would have to go with either the Champs Elysees or the North Shore – I think both would look flattering on my body type. Love the details on the CE too!

I would choose golden afternoon, such a cute color and i like the ribbon on the waist
I love Shabby Apple! I also get wayyy too overwhelmed when online shopping, but the way Shabby Apple categorizes their clothes makes it really easy to narrow in on what I like and am looking for.
I love the Frabjous Day dress (http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-1411-frabjous-day.aspx) because I LOVE Alice in Wonderland (“frabjous day” is a part from Lewis Carroll’s “The Jabberwocky”, a poem in “Through the Looking Glass”), and I love buying clothes with a story behind them. Plus, this dress is super cute!
If I was being indulgent, I’d get the Hollywood Hills (http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-1324-hollywood-hills.aspx) — the lace is magical.
If I was being responsible, probably the New Caledonia (http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-924-new-caledonia.aspx) because I would definitely wear it over and over.
I’ve never ordered anything from Shabby Apple because I’ve always been paralyzed by all the wonderful choices. HOW CAN I CHOOSE JUST ONE??
I love the navy blue El Capitan Re-make. I could wear this to work and to meet girlfriends for dinner! Also perfect for a wedding or any other type of networking event. And I kind of LOVE the peplum trend right now.
I really, really love the Garden Isle dress! So summery! Or Frabjuous Day. I mean, those are legit awesome.
I really like this skirt: http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-1143-pizarro-skirt.aspx
I’m a fan of the deeper hues, and this seems like a versatile piece which I could pair with a lot of tops to make a wide variety of outfits!
I love that Double Rainbow dress! Those ruffles are adorable. Thanks for the chance to win :)
I want to own Ipanema. Recently, I’ve decided to take the needed steps to create a wardrobe that enhances the curves that I have. Instead of finding which black top makes me look the thinnest, I’m incorporating color in fun ways. While I’m not thrilled with my body shape/size, I’ve decided to do something about it. I’ve started doing cardio at least five days a week and a little bit of strength training in addition to changing my eating habits and I’m seeing results! I’m also an avid reader of Girl With Curve’s blog and she’s inspired me to take more chances and play with color and pattern. So that’s what I’m doing and that’s why I think Ipanema needs to be on permanent rotation in my closet!
I’m torn between the Truman and the Nantucket, but I think I’d go with the Nantucket. The neckline would compliment my rather (insanely) large chest and the length is amazing.
I am LOVING the Malt Shop dress. I think it must be the lace. I have too many printed dresses, but I can’t just go completely solid, so I love that this dress has texture with the lace!
http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-1327-malt-shop.aspx
I really like the Confidential or Garden Isle. Very pretty dresses that I think would be good with fuller hips. I’ve never heard of Shabby Apple. Thanks!
I would get the Toe the Line dress! I love nautical styles and the color blue dominates my closet. :)
I’d probably get the Sierra Navada (http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-722-sierra-nevada.aspx) because I’m going to my cousins wedding in late september and need something fun!
Hi Rachel! Definitely San Gabriel. It’s looks very high fashion and vintage and I LOVE ruffles and high collars.
Robin´s last post ..Tails of… Help me finish the name of this series!
I would love the “I’m Late! I’m Late” dress! First, because I adore the lace and covered-up femininity of it, but also…because I am always late.
Thanks for sharing this great site! I am always looking for sites with versatile dresses… that don’t make me consider how many meals I would have to skip to afford them! I love the Twin Palms. I can’t get enough of button accents!
I love a lot of things on here! I was looking at dresses then the Kwinana Beach swimsuit…and then I wanted it. I need a new black suit, and the photo! The model has tanlines AND one of those red marks on her leg from sitting on that trunk probably and it wasn’t photoshopped out. So…I’m assuming they don’t really photoshop to death their photos, and seeing a model not airbrushed to nothingness made me so happy!
I love the Poppy Hill dress and the Beachcomber- both look totally fun and flattering.
I would definitely choose the Gavotte dress http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-1382-gavotte-43.aspx
I’m the best [wo]man in my friend’s upcoming wedding…the dress would balance really well with tuxes, sticks to their monochromatic theme, and wouldn’t detract any attention from the bride. Plus I would easily be able to wear it for many other occasions, which is super important since I’m supposed to be in two weddings in the next 4 months. I can’t afford to buy two dresses I’ll never wear again!
The A+ shirt dress! It’s the dress I’ve always wanted but never justified spending my money on. It’s adorable.
I would choose the Alice dress. I love the feminine style without being too sexy or revealing. Very classic looking.
LOVE the New Caledonia! Red is one of my favorite colors to wear, and the style and shade are both classic enough to wear over and over again throughout the year! Flirty yet still sophisticated. So pretty!
http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-924-new-caledonia.aspx
Nothin but a Dame! I’m trying to wear more fitted dresses a la Mad Men. I’m going to “woman-ly” now a days.
I would love the Aphrodite dress! It’s a maternity dress, and I love that they have cute dresses with stylish lines. We have several events in the fall that I could wear it to. I’m due in December, and it looks comfy and I love the longer sleeves!
I love the Mauna Kea from the South Pacific collection. It’s bright, but school-appropriate! Every time I buy something “good”, I ask myself if I can wear it to work as a teacher. I could also do this one year-round with sandals OR leggings and boots.
The Pizarro Skirt would transition perfecet from work to nightlife for me.
Honestly, I love everything on this site.
I really love the Pineapple Princess dress! That yellow color is gorgeous!
I think the Volcano at midnight dress would quickly become a standby in my wardrobe if I had the chance!
Thanks :)
I have been reading your blog for a few weeks now and find your writing so engaging. I never know what might come up while reading.
I really like the Cockeyed Optimist dress and not just for the awesome “South Pacific” musical reference. I teach choir and my students are always complaining that I only wear black to concerts and that I hardly wear color in my everyday wear. This dress is certainly colorful and A-line which would suit my body type.
Anything that tells me I have to hand wash, I just throw it into my large sweater/lingerie bag and call it good enough. It always washes fine as long as I do NOT let the washer swish for too long.
So…I pretty much just spent the last two hours browsing their site picking my dress. I’ve heard of Shabby Apple, but had never checked out their store before — I’m in love with the simple, vintage-inspired silhouettes! I think I’d have to pick the “Alice” dress. Love the minty green color and skinny belt. Also, the silhouette looks super flattering.

I love the vineyard sound wrap dress because it looks so comfortable and that style tends to be pretty flattering for my body type.
I would pick the carnival for the brilliant blue and beautiful, flattering a-line skirt.
I would love to have the Cockeyed Optimist dress. I love the bright color and the neckline!
You totally forgot to mention (or maybe didn’t find) that they have a little quiz to help you find dresses best for your body shape!! That makes me feel a whole lot better about ordering online from them! I would have naturally chosen the Puca Pucacara dress as its my two favorite colors (blue and yellow) plus seems very flattering. But I will wish for winning the Headliner Dress as it is still classic, but the red is more bright and daring then I am usually willing to dress.

I love the cream flower appliqué dress SO MUCH, but I’m not sure if I’d actually buy it for myself…I think I’d have to have the red scooter to go with it in order to avoid looking totally washed out. Maybe I subconsciously just picked it for the scooter…
I just started a new job and my wardrobe needs a SERIOUS upgrade. I love the Summer Wind dress because of the classic style but also love the francine skirt. Thanks!

this website is fabulous! i would definitely purchase the cider dress; love the ruffled neckline! or the el dorado, i love the flow-y bottom! this is a great site, i will surely be visiting it again.
I stumbled upon the website a while ago – and love supporting women run/owned businesses. I bookmarked the Bellissma, and like you I had the same reservations since I am unfamiliar with the website. I wear business casual to work – and so many dresses can be “work to play” or “meeting to dinner.” They are absolutely wonderful and unique. I love the Bellisma because its yellow, ruffly, and oh-so-fun.
Heck, I will probably buy the dress either way.
That “Fit to Flatter” quiz is adorable. And now I can’t believe I have to choose one dress. Thank you for introducing me to a new brand of crack. And for the generous giveaway, of course.
Okay, I *love* both the Washington Square Park and Upper East Side. And the Streetcar Skirt. But because of the season and my unnatural obsession with gingham, I think my pick would be the Overboard Dress. Plus, it looks like a flattering fit for me.
Oh, and I also say “monies.” And “the Googles/the Internets.” Thank you, President.
I really like the Toe the Line chambray shirt dress and the Elizabeth Islands maxi dress– both seem like they are versatile and I thought the wrap maxi dress seemed really interesting and unique.
I like the Black Oak dress because of the feminine detail on the yoke of the dress. The El Capitan looks awesome too. It looks like it would be very flattering to your waistline.
http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-758-shanghai.aspx this dress is so cute! I could dress it up or down, love that!
Um, I know this is supposed to be about dresses (which for the record, I would love to get this one). But did you know they have bathing suits?!?!?!?!! I need a bathing suit like whoa. So I would end up getting this beautiful red one piece – Maraschino.
I love the Overboard dress, because it looks like a picnic blanket (you know, in a good way.) I pretty much live in casual skirts and dresses all summer long, so I’m always looking for new places to shop for them (and new inspiration to sew my own!)
Let me just say: Rachel you look amazing! The dress, the hair–you’re awesome.
I’m sort of having a wardrobe crisis myself. I’m too old to wear nike shorts/leggings every day (It’s college!) but I don’t have the patience to find clothes that work for my body. So I love dresses, because they just work. I don’t have to find a top that matches! Anyway, I’d choose the Bookworm or Polly Hill Poppy. The bookworm is so not my style, but I love the bow and it just speaks to me. I think Polly would be really flattering.
Thanks!
Ande
I absolutely adore the Tiber dress. I’m from New England and am automatically drawn to the nautical and prep styles. This tastefully combines several nautical aspects without being tacky nor looking like a six year old in a sailor dress.
I’m starting a new job and have been looking for summery yet work appropriate dresses and this fits the bill perfectly. (Not to mention my new office looks out onto the south coast of massachusetts…)
I think I’m in love with all their red lace dresses, but specifically the Red Lace Dress. It’s super cute and unique and could be worn to a variety of occasions.
I really love the Side Saddle (dress) – the color blocking is really fun and funky!
I love pretty much all of their South Pacific line – all the bright colors suck me right in! And the necklines are interesting!

1. I adore the Nothin’ But a Dame dress http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-923-nothin-like-a-dame.aspx
2. LOVE how flirty it is, and the form-fitting cut/rounded scoop neck is most flattering for my “pear shaped” body. I love dresses that can show off my teeny waste, while also hugging my curves (in a flattering way that is!) The color is AMAZING for summer as well, and I am already dreaming about wearing it on date night ; )
Thanks for the great post Rachel!

I would get the Izzie skirt because it’s so bright and perfect for summer parties! (and I love that shade of green). Bonus: it’s on sale!
Holy cannoli! What a fantastic site.
After spending too much time looking and dreaming at dresses, I decided that the Ipanema is my favorite- http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-1549-ipanema.aspx
Lately, I have had the intention if spicing up my wardrobe with bright funky patterned blouses and dresses…but I haven’t really. This dress has the right amount of bright color and awesome pattern to make it fun, but you can still be taken serious in it!
Thanks for another awesome post Rachel :)
I’d get the Mariposa Grove because I love the simple look yet bold color! Thanks so much!
I love the L’ETE faux-wrap dress. Wrap dresses flatter most body types, and I love the slimming effect of the vertical lines. It looks very playful and comfortable. They only had one size left, but based on the sizing chart, and the site making their fits larger, I am sure it would fit me. :)
I love the I’m Late, I’m Late, Mulholland, and Love Me Do dresses! They’re all simple yet elegant.
I love the Bellissima dress, because its so chic and cute! It would look great on my small shoulders and match my red hair.
I love the I’m Late! I’m Late! dress because it is dark blue, is a lace dress (I LOVE lace!), has a bow at the waist, and has elbow sleeves. :)

I lovelovelovex389473847389 the yellow twin peaks. It’s the quintessential summertime/springtime dress that looks comfortable enough to wear on days that end in, well, day. I am a big fan of yellow right now and love huge buttons on all things- clothes, purses, belts, hair assessories. You name it. If it has big buttons, more often than not, I wanna be all.over.it. The dress looks chic and looks as though it would be very flattering. The cap sleeves are to-die for cute and I would live, breathe, eat, and shower in this.
I loooove the Bette D. dress. It’s black, but still so interesting. Plus, I just moved to DC and am going to be working in a more corporate setting (no more training and workout clothes!), so I need something professional that still has a dramatic flair to show my personality. Classic but not at all boring!

Totally digging the Bon Voyage. Super cute for meetings, but fun enough that I can pretend I’m walking to a cruise ship. Is that crazy lame? Still love it.
I am IN LOVE with L’Opera: http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-615-lopera.aspx. I would wear this all the time.
I am learning to flatter my natural shape, and I think this dress would do it perfectly.
Rachel, you look wonderful in that dress. I would stare at you on the street!
I LOVE dresses and LOVE this website! I think I’d pick Cider, so cute and the orange is so fun!
Ohhh I want the pink caterpillar skirt because I need more mix and match options. I’m SUCH a dress lover, but it doesn’t give me as many options!

I’m not usually too big on buying clothes online because I’m always worried it won’t fit the way it should and i like to try things on first but I do like that this website gives you details on fit so you get a better idea of what size you should get.
They’re pictures are all really cute and I really loved the north shore dress, i like that it looks like something you can either dress up or down and I love the flower detail.
I really like your dress! I also love the Cayenne and the Boogie Woogie.
I would choose Trade Winds because I don’t have a white dress. I have about 18 LBDs but nothing white. I need a change in my wardrobe!
I NEED The “walk the plank” dress! I am an Auburn grad born and raised in New Orleans, and this year i will be taking my LSU-fan husband and friends to the Auburn/LSU game in Auburn. That dress would be hte cutest game day dress!
I love reading everyone’s comments! My favorite at first glance is the Desert Modern – http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-1524-desert-modern.aspx. I really love the comfiness of a maxi dress, and the sleeves on this dress make it acceptable for so many occasions. Would I spend $82 on it? Probably not. But I would if I won a gift card! :)
I really love the Lima dress. It’s such a pretty color for summer and it looks perfect for wearing to a nice dinner at the beach (maybe even on a Mexican vacation…hey, I can dream!)
demureprincess7(at)gmail(dot)com
I like the Elizabeth Islands Long Grey Wrap Dress (http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-1612-elizabeth-islands.aspx) because I dig Diane von Furstenberg’s fashion story and I find maxi dresses to be the most comfortable thing in my closet.

I am IN LOVE with the Tanglewood (http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-703-tanglewood.aspx). I love it because I could wear it to work or out with friends because it’s versatile. Plus, I am in love with dark browns and I have tons of adorable shoes that would look AMAZING with this dress :)
1) I love the Racquet Club!
2) I feel like a blazer would make this work appropriate and some crazy jewelry would rock it out for the weekend. Not to to mention, I have a hunch that bold red stripe could make my waist look tiny. #Winning
Although I’ve had a love affair with the El Capitan for a while now, I have to go with the Seven Seas in Seersucker, because I just cannot get enough seersucker during the summer! It’s my inner preppy.
I love Shabby Apple! I’ve seen their clothing on other fashion blogs but have not actually bought anything for myself yet, so I’m excited to enter this contest! I’d choose the “Bellisima” dress with yellow scalloped piping. Based on the reviews, it’s a great dress for work and/or a night on the town and a good fit for those of us with big hips (that’s me!)
I love the Overboard dress. It is beautifully elegant and definitely my style.
family74014 at gmail dot com
I love the Veni Vidi Vici dress! So classic! It looks like it can be dressed up for work or dressed down for a summer BBQ – love the versatility!
I LOVE this Bellissima dress: http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-964-bellissima.aspx
I love color and I’ve been looking for a nice yellow dress, and this dress is nice and casual while style having an interesting design with the scalloped front.

The Red Queen! I love this dress and I think it would be perfect for all the bridal showers/ baby showers/ everyone is have some kind of shower events that I am going to this summer!!
1. I love the Freshwater Pearl Dress.
2. I love wearing white in the summer is is so crisp and clean looking.
I just love the Bellissima! I almost never buy dresses with brighter colors, but I love the yellow and style of this dress. I am a teacher and could wear this dress to work or out. Love a great summer dress!
I absolutely adore the “I’m Late, I’m Late” dress in the Mad Hatter collection. Living in small town Alaska, I do my fair share of online shopping and I have been “window” shopping this dress for months. I am heading back to the East Coast for a wedding (where I will also be meeting my boyfriend’s family) and I think this gorgeous blue lace dress would be the perfect “meet the parents” dress.
I love the Cider – http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-702-cider.aspx
Perfect color for fall and so freaking cute.
I love the dress on you! It is nice to see such a flattering dress with sleeves. It looks very comfortable, versatile and sophisticated.
I can’t just pick one! My first favorite is the Highland Light dress. Atlantic Coast Lighthouses hold a special place in my heart and this dress illuminates everything that is special about them! I can almost smell the ocean, hear the waves and taste the seafood. Plus, I just had a baby and this dress would flatter the areas that have just changed on my body. My second favorite is the Phi Beta Kappa. There is something about this dress that I j can’t put my finger on but I am in love with it! Since I never go to be a sorority girl, this dress would be my quick fix!
I would choose the “Tea Time” dress. I have been on the hunt for the perfect lace dress that is both trendy yet unique for ages and believe this may be ‘the one’. It has a classic look but the color has a standout quality that I love!
I was JUST drooling over some of their full-skirted options (including your selection) today, wishing I wasn’t trying to not spend any more $ on clothes this month…
Loving the parisian charm of the ‘Racquet Club’ dress: http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-1529-racquet-club.aspx – perfect for summer AND fall! I’d add some turquoise accessories to it as well…

The Bow Skirt Dress (4.0) is lovely and classically old-school without seeming like I pulled it out of my Grandma’s closet. I love it! Also, bonus points for sleeves and a modest skirt, dresses that I can wear at my work seem to be few and far between.
http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-1217-40.aspx
I really would like their Rosso dress. I’ve been looking for a beautiful maxi dress and this is perfect!
I LOVE the El Dorado dress: http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-1139-el-dorado.aspx
I love the bright, bold color and I’m always a fan of soft, comfy jersey-like fabric. I also like that bit of fabric gathered at the waist that makes it a bit more fun.
I love the Pre-Columbian! Seems like something Megan from “Mad Men” would wear. So airy and colorful for summer!

I would love the Golden Afternoon dress!
This one! http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-1414-alice.aspx
I work in Detroit in urban agriculture…. sometimes I forget that my wardrobe doesn’t need to consist solely of tshirts from community events, cargo pants, boots, and gardening gloves!
I love the Palatine Hill dress. I’ve been looking for a cute summery white dress, and this one can transition from day to night and from work to weekend!
I LOVE this giveaway!! I would love the Red Queen dress – it’s feminine and bold which is what draws me to it.
I must say browsing this website was like taking a vacation, I love the images of the spanish steps and fountains. The Bellisima dress is a close second for me!
I would choose the Red Queen/Alice dress. I love the bold red, the sweet details, and the romance of the dress. Sometimes I just wanna feel like a princess.
I love the A+ dress on Shabby Apple. This is the first time I’ve looked at their website and everything is gorgeous! But this dress would be something I could also wear to work (I’m a primary English teacher) and would be appropriate while also flattering and stylish. Plus I could easily layer sweaters and leggings when winter comes!
I love the academia collection, and actually the academia dress the most of all. It’s fitting considering that I want to get a good practical (yet adorable) dress to wear to scientific conferences/presentations this coming school year!
I love the BonHeur Dress – it’s the perfect simple summer frock – everyone needs a frilly white dress.
amdierm at gmail dot com
I am mildly obsessed with the hyannis skirt! So cute and appropriate for work or date night!
I just had a baby and wish I had a dress that could work for nursing.
I really like Pina Colada in the yellow print (http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-926-pina-colada.aspx#). It is bright and happy. The buttons would make it breastfeeding accessible and the dress’s cut would be forgiving on my postpartum body.
Ah! I’ve been wanting to order something from Shabby Apple since I first saw the site floating around the web on various blogs, but always had a hard time pulling the trigger for the same reasons as you (buying online, sizing, etc, plus buyer’s regret from one too many bored online shopping sessions). I don’t see the dress I loved on the site anymore, but I’d have to go with either the Humboldt Current Skirt (love those colors for summer) or the Rhapsody dress in fuschia (because every other dress I own is in some form of blue/teal/green).
I love Shabby Apple! I’m a big fan of vintage apparel and shop from a couple of different sites.
I’m eyeballing right now the Upper East Side dress. It’s my favorite color and would be perfect to wear to the office. http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-383-upper-east-side.aspx
It’s very Jackie O…timeless.
Thanks for hosting this giveaway!
There are too many choices! I’d like the headliner dress because I’ve been wanting to add more colors to my wardrobe and red is bold. I can dress it up and dress it down!
I’ve narrowed down my selections to three all with unique necklines, sleeves, and hitting at or above the knee. Study Break, this color is gorgeous, and it could be the PERFECT fall dress. Blue Eyes, that flowy skirt makes me want to spin. Hackney, I love the color and the identical cut out on the front and back.
It was fun to check out the dresses and even if I don’t win the giveaway I’ll probably make at least one of them mine. Great giveaway, thanks Rachel & Shabby Apple!

If it came in my size, I would choose the Walk the Plank dress…I love the fun colors…and they are mixed wonderfully in this dress…but since they’re out of my size…hmmm, what a tough choice…perhaps the pina colada, more bright colors and so very claassy…perfect for a party or just going to buy groceries!!
OMG I love the Veni Vidi Vici wrap dress! Beautiful color and such a flattering style. Thank you so much for the giveaway!!
This post couldn’t have come at a better time, since I recently rediscovered the joy of shopping. There are so many beautiful dresses to choose from. I love the Ipanema and Heart of Me under the “print” section of the website.

After wayyyyy too much time perusing, I would have to say Ingrid. That dress brings to mind a classic style, almost a little throwback. I am not much of a dress wearer – even now after maintaining a130ish pound loss for 2+ years, I am still learning what works on my body.
Im also really drawn to Veni Vidi Vici – wrap dresses work so well for so many body styles!
Thanks for the great giveaway!
I love the Blue Eyes dress. I like the white collar and the longer length. The vintage cuta nd pattern is something that would stand out.
I really love the Desert modern dress. It is so simple, easy, yet classic and super stylish. I can see dressing it down with simple sandals and dressing it up with a great statement necklace or belt, heels and some fabulous earrings!

I would love to own the Confidential dress…I just think is very delicate and feminine looking! I love it!
I really love the Ramble in Maroon. It looks classy and comfortable. Definitely my kind of dress. Thanks for having such an awesome giveaway! :)

i love the astra swimsuit, but it’s no longer avail in my size. =( i have a zillion 2 piece swimsuits, i’d love to try a one piece that doesn’t make me look like a) my mom or b) a 15 yr old on the swimteam.
love, love, love the highland light dress! super cute and casual for summertime!
I like the bacaami dress
I had one but my daughter “confiscated it”

I would select the Pina Colada dress. I love the yellow color and it is just so cute! I can see wearing it to work and on weekends to Sunday brunch.
Love the dress on you! This is my first time looking at Shabby Apple-looks like some amazing dresses. And the cause is great. I will be sure to shop again there.
My fave was the Bernini dress, I want to wear it to work, then out to dinner. Perfect for a late summer dress.

There is a lot I love on this site, especially the skirts. The Ivory Tower skirt http://www.shabbyapple.com/p-1209-ivory-tower-skirt.aspx is my favorite. I love skirts and this one looks like it would work for all seasons depending on what it is paired with.
I love the Beachcomber dress. Thanks for the giveaway!
I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE Shabby Apple, they have many great items that I’d be so lucky to own! I love the Ingrid dress, it’s nice but not too casual and I’d wear it all the time. The G. Cooper dress is also very nice.
I love the bernini dress! :)
I chose that item because I love the print!! I also love that puca dress on you! absolutely adorable!!
Pretty much anything from the Academia collection. Because part of me always wants to prance around like I’m attending Columbia in the late 60s.
Love Shabby Apple! But I’m always so overwhelmed when I visit their site because I covet so many of their dresses. Mariposa Grove is currently at the top of the list.
I love the look of the Study Break dress, because I think mustard yellow is perfect for fall. And fall is right around the corner. :) Thank goodness, because it has been too hot out this summer! Ha!

Definitely the Racquet Club. Because I can’t NOT pick something with stripes!
hi rachel! i would choose the trade winds dress… i have dark skin, so i’ve found that white dresses really pop when i wear them :) also, i’m getting married in five weeks, so it would be such an awesome dress to wear either for the rehearsal dinner or for our honeymoon in exotic california!! (i live in ohio!)
thanks for the heads up on this super cute website! i am in love with the dresses, especially the light blue Summer Wind one, bright enough for the weekends and still work appropriate. :)
EEEEEEEEE! LOVE that dress on you!
I would get the Bernini. I love it because like you I have been wanting a dress with sleeves. It would be great to wear out or to work. The color is beautiful. Also, it is a floral print which I don’t usually wear, but I’ve been trying to branch out fashion-wise!
