{the lessons} How to Look Like You Aren’t Wearing Any Makeup

by Rachel on July 31, 2012

I’m guest posting over on the Birchbox blog this week! You can read my first guest post on the Birchbox blog here: How to Look Like You Aren’t Wearing Any Makeup.

I am really excited about this because I love Birchbox in that way you love a band that you were raving about before they really blew up, when you feel that bit of ownership and then pride when they succeed. I sort of accidentally found myself meeting Katia Beauchamp, one of Birchbox’s founders, two years ago; she was in Houston promoting the brand on a local TV station and needed a girl at the last minute to demo the products on. As I sat there gently dabbing my face with the product, I listened to her talk about the concept, and I was so impressed. From there, I watched the company and the brand grow and then just explode. I love their brand and blog and I’m absolutely thrilled to be working with them in this capacity.

To celebrate, I broke out a bottle of something special — not champagne, but a special-edition nail polish. This Chanel Holographic polish came out in 2007 and wasn’t sold in the US, but I asked a friend (and fellow nail polish junkie) who was studying abroad to see if she could find some for me, and she came through. It’s hard to see it in the picture, but it really does create a true holographic color that looks almost like fabric once it’s on your nail. I don’t use it very often since I have a limited quantity, but this seemed like a good occasion for it. It’s one of the strangest and most fabulous polishes I’ve ever tried.

I’ll have a new post up each day on the Birchbox blog so I’ll be sharing more links as my posts go up throughout the week!
